So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS – “DON’T LET IT CONTROL YOU”
English psych/doom band Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats are back with the first new music in a minute. “Don’t Let it Control You” is a Stooges-style ripper, with Uncle Acid’s magic sauce all over it. It’s the first single from the band’s new album that’s due out later this year.

KORN – “REWARD THE SCARS”
“Reward the Scars” is Korn’s first new music in over four years, and it appears on the soundtrack for Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred. “I’ve played Diablo for years, so getting to step into that world creatively felt natural,” Jonathan Davis says. “I’ve always connected to the darkness in the game and the idea of confronting what lives beneath the surface—that’s something Korn has explored in our music from the beginning. ‘Reward the Scars’ came out of our own writing sessions as a new Korn song, and it became clear pretty quickly that it was a natural fit for Diablo.”

DUCKS LTD. FEAT. MARTIN COURTNEY – “EASY COME, EASY GO” (GRANT MCLENNAN COVER)
While we wait on Ducks Ltd to announce (record?) their third album, they’ve shared this lovely cover of “Easy Come, Easy Go” by the late Grant McLennan of The Go Betweens. (It was a single on his 1991 solo debut, Watershed.) The cover, released just before their tour with Yumi Zouma, features Real Estate’s Martin Courtney who also mixed the song. Says one of the duo: “We’re on the record as being big Go-Betweens fans, and this song is from my favorite Go-Between, Grant Mclellan’s first solo record from right after the band broke up. I think it’s one of his best songs. It uses figurative language in a way that feels plain spoken and direct, and it incorporates contemporary imagery in a way that feels timeless. If it’d had been on a Go-Betweens album it would have been one of their classics. This was our first time working with Martin Courtney and it was really fun! We went to his extremely haunted studio in Beacon, NY on a day off on tour and did the whole track in one day. It was super interesting to work with someone who has been making a similar kind of music to us for a long time. Our overall processes and instincts were super similar, but he had some insights and ideas we would never have arrived at on our own.”

VIOLET GROHL – “COOL BUZZ”
Violet Grohl’s debut album Be Sweet To Me is out in May, and she’s given us another preview with “Cool Buzz.” She says it’s about “poking fun at moral inconsistencies in punk guys who preach progressive politics, but then in their own musical spaces won’t let women have a chance.”

HOLLIE COOK – SHY GIRL IN DUB
Hollie Cook has taken last year’s Shy Girl album and given it the dub treatment, courtesy producer Ben Mckone.

CHEEKFACE – “MFT”
“This is a song that mentions AI, but it’s not about whether AI is bad,” Cheekface’s Greg Katz says of “MFT,” the new single off their upcoming album Podium. “(It’s bad, but that’s not the point of the song.) It’s an elegy for someone seeking a safe space to share her worst thoughts, and feeling that even therapy isn’t really safe, because the therapist might have to report those thoughts to the government. Me and Mandy related to that feeling of despair and fear.”

ARC IRIS – “JENNY” (FT. WILLOW)
Arc Iris announced their sixth album, iTMRW, due out May 22. It’s the foundation for a 90-minute multimedia production, iTMRW: A Sci-Fi Ballet, and the new single is “Jenny,” which features WILLOW.
