9 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

PIG DESTROYER – “UNTITLED”

Pig Destroyer have announced a 20th anniversary box set edition of their classic 2004 album Terrifyer, and along with the announcement comes the grindcore chaos of “Untitled,” which has never been previously released digitally.

AARON STAUFFER – “STORM COORDINATES”

Aaron Stauffer of Seaweed has shared a new solo song, a ’90s-style indie rock song called “Storm Coordinates.”

VERBÖTEN (JASON NARDUCY) – “KICKING AWAY”

Verböten, Jason Narducy’s childhood punk band who are back together 40 years later, will release their self-titled debut album this Friday and here’ one more early taste. “Kicking Away” is about Narducy’s love of skateboarding, and the video’s about that too.

ONE TRUE PAIRING (EX WILD BEASTS) – “HUMAN FRAILTY”

“Well we try and we try and it has a good laugh at our expense,” says former Wild Beasts member Tom Fleming of this new solo song as One True Pairing. “It’s not a fight you win. That’s the thing about bravery, it’ll use you up. It doesn’t matter if you see it coming or not. I’ve been listening to a lot of country? In general this sort of wisened country/folk stuff suits me more as I get older.” New album Endless Rain os out October 25 via Domino.

MAN/WOMAN/CHAINSAW – “THE BOSS”

London art punk group Man/Woman/Chainsaw have shared a second song from their upcoming Easy Peazy EP which is their first release for Fat Possum. Say the band: “‘The Boss’ is the heaviest of the songs on the EP and definitely a live favorite of ours. We wanted to express our frustration with imbalanced power dynamics in our everyday lives with a big supermassive rant of a rock song. Working in the studio with Dan Fox of Gilla Band was fun and allowed us to experiment with getting the song to sound as spacey as we could get it – we particularly enjoyed recording the electric violin through guitar amps cranked to 10 while simultaneously manipulating a tape delay unit.”

ANNO (FKA OLIVIA NEUTRON-JOHN) – “DISCO” (FEAT. NAPPYNAPPA)

Anno, the Washington, D.C.-based artist formerly known as Olivia Neutron-John, has announced their self-titled album which is out November 1. “When writing this record, I tapped into that initial energy that put my journey as a musician into motion when I started touring at 17 years old — the first sparks that sent me into the unknown, and not so much trusting, but knowing that this is my path,” says Anno. “This record is an homage to the radical hope that got me to where I am now.” This first single features rapper NAPPYNAPPA of model home.

NIGHT CRICKETS – “RED MIST WHITE KNUCKLES”

Night Crickets, the trio of David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes), and Darwin Meiners, started as a pandemic lockdown project but four years later they’re still going and will release their second album, How It Ends (?) on October 25 via Label 51. Here’s the first single.

EVERYTHING IS RECORDED – PORCUPINE TATTOO (FT. NOAH CYRUS & BILL CALLAHAN)

XL Recordings head Richard Russell has a musical project called Everything is Recorded where he collaborates with different musicians, often in surprising pairings. (Think UNKLE.) He’s just released a new single, “Porcupine Tattoo,” that features Bill Callahan and 2021 Best New Artist Grammy nominee Noah Cyrus, who are performing together for the first time here.
