Stars‘ Amy Millan‘s first solo album in 16 years, I Went to Find You, is out today via Last Gang. It was produced by Jay McCarrol, engineered by The Besnard Lakes’ Jace Lasek, and mixed in part by Peter Katis, and you can stream it below.
To celebrate the album’s release, Amy told us about a few of the influences behind it. In the video below, she named The Weather Station (musically, aesthetically, and politcally); Waxahatchee (whose Tigers Blood track “Right Back To It” she calls “one of my favorite songs ever”); John Williams (who she felt was “weaving himself in there” during a freak storm w here her collaborator Jay McCarroll played an impromptu concert); a Bulgarian state television and radio female choir; and Leonard Cohen (who she called the “start influence,” discussing her thoughts on Death of a Ladies’ Man and its lack of female equivalent).
