So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE ARMED – “EVERYTHING’S GLITTER”
The Armed have shared the second taste of their highly anticipated new album Perfect Saviors, and it’s yet another unexpected left turn from a band who don’t fit neatly into any genre of music. This one sorta sounds like The Armed’s weird interpretation of what could’ve been a radio rock hit in the 2000s.

RÓISÍN MURPHY – “YOU KNEW” ++ PAYFONE AND ELI ESCOBAR REMIXES
“‘You Knew’ is the story of my life,” Róisín Murphy says of the latest single from her anticipated new album Hit Parade. “I’m an open book, I put myself on the line and I make my motivations obvious. Many times, I have bravely loved and not been loved in return, and I’m proud of that. That phrase “You Knew” just sums it all up, in fact you could put it on my headstone, except I’ve already decided it’ll say.. You Had Your Chance!” In addition to Róisín’s original, there are remixes by Payfone and Eli Escobar.

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN – “HALF WAY TO CRAZY” (LIVE AT HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM)
The Jesus & Mary Chain are releasing double live album Sunset 66 on August 4 via Fuzz Club. It was at the band’s 2018 show at L.A.’s Hollywood Paladium as part of their tour with Nine Inch Nails. Say the Reid brothers, “Side D of the ‘Sunset 666’ vinyl is taken from the December 11 2018 show at The Hollywood Palladium with Nine Inch Nails and includes a few of our favourite songs from ‘Automatic’ to play live. This version of ‘Half Way To Crazy’ really gets the energy of that night.”

SORRY – “SCREAMING IN THE RAIN AGAIN”
UK duo Sorry have released a new version of their song “Screaming in the Rain Again” from last year’s Anywhere But Here. “We wanted to make a version that was harder, stronger, faster,” say Sorry. “We felt we could show a different side to the version that is on the album, one with more passion.”

BEABADOOBEE – “THE WAY THINGS GO”
Just ahead of her upcoming headline tour, beabadoobie has released a brand new single as well as a balletic video directed by Jacob Erland.

PAIN OF TRUTH – “UNDER MY SKIN” (ft. CRIMINAL INSTINCT)
Long Island metallic hardcore band Pain of Truth have shared the latest taste of their upcoming debut LP Not Through Blood. The album is loaded with guests, and this one features Josiah Hoeflinger of Criminal Instinct. Pick up the LP on blue/yellow vinyl.

HURRY – “PARALLEL HAUNTING”
Hurry have shared another taste of their upcoming album Don’t Look Back. It’s a lovely jangle pop song with baroque pop arrangements that really take it to the next level.

MALI VELASQUEZ – “TORE”
Nashville singer/songwriter Mali Velasquez has announced her debut album, I’m Green, due October 13 via Acrophase Records. Lead single “Tore” is a gentle indie rock song that Mali says is “mostly about my own way of self sabotaging.”

MONOLORD – “GLAIVE (IT’S ALL THE SAME)” & “THE ONLY ROAD”
Swedish stoner rockers Monolord are back with two riffy, slow-paced gems.

THE MEXICAN OT – “BARRIO” (ft. LEFTY SM)
Houston rapper The Mexican OT will release new album Lonestar Luchador on July 28 via Manifest/GoodTalk/Good Money Global, and here’s the genre-blurring, bilingual new single.

DUSK (ex-TENEMENT) – “PISSING IN A WISHING WELL”
Dusk (whose lineup includes Amos Pitsch of Tenement) have announced new album Glass Pastures, due October 20 via Don Giovanni. Lead single “Pissing In A Wishing Well” is a dose of punky, ragged alt-country.

BEEF – “BEEF”
Cincinnati band BEEF make mutant punk with a healthy dose of grit. Their debut album is also called Beef as is its lead single.

DOUBLE WISH – “EDGE TO EDGE”
L.A.’s Double Wish are releasing an expanded edition of their album Light Split Sparkle on August 4 via Hit the North Records / Neon Bloodbath. One of the bonus tracks is this new single.

ISLET – “RIVER BODY”
Welsh group Islet will release new album Soft Fascination on September 29 via Fire. “River Body” is both ethereal and punchy, perfect for your next DIY warehouse party.

ANNA TIVEL – “INVISIBLE MAN (ACOUSTIC)”
The live version of Anna Tivel’s fantastic 2022 album Outsiders is out in August, and she’s shared another track from it, a pared-down acoustic version of “Invisible Man.”

KITBA – “THIS BODY”
Ahead of the release of their self-titled debut album on Friday, Kitba shared a final single, the poignant, subdued “My Words Don’t Work.” “I began questioning my gender while making this record,” they say. “Zubin and I would pull apart the meaning of these songs as we worked on them, and one day I walked out of his studio and onto the street and a thought appeared – what if I didn’t think of myself as a woman? What did that space allow? How did it feel in my body to remove that parameter? I had written ‘This Body’ initially with the soft-meaning of a physical body’s shape (and as someone who has struggled with an ED for decades), but it occurred to me that I could have been creating space in my mind to challenge what I perceived as ‘fixed’ gender. As I began letting go of the idea of myself as a ‘woman’, I felt a lightness come over my body. I felt freer to simply exist as myself. Things that had always confused me began to make sense. I am still in a process of discovery, but this song and the experience of making the record has allowed me to earnestly begin my gender journey. I am indebted to it and to Zubin, who created the space in the studio to explore the recesses of my mind.”

AXIS: SOVA – “HARDCORE MAPS”
Bret Sova says of his new Axis:Sova ripper: “Hardcore Maps” evolved into something like a carnival ride through a dark yet vaguely familiar alley, or one of those dreams where you’re being chased at night but can’t seem to move fast enough or see who’s after you before leaping from a bridge onto a moving train… Getting it to tape was deeply cathartic – Ty Segall’s production was immense in helping bring it to life.” New album Blinded by Oblivion is out October 6.

HARMONY – SHOPLIFTING FROM NIKE”
Harmony’s (aka Harmony Tividad, formerly of Girlpool) debut solo EP, Dystopia Girl, is out next month, and the latest single is “Shoplifting from Nike,” a bright electro-pop track. “‘Shoplifting from Nike’ is about trying to function under the weight of all things and creating a personality that is so shameless that you believe you can survive it,” Harmony says. “It’s about modern spirituality, materialism and disassociation. And the 2008 housing crisis. And being annoying and epic. And having fun and not taking life too seriously… but also being deeply invested in reality.”

ARIANA DELAWARI – “YOU CAN LOVE AGAIN” FT. DEVENDRA BANHART
Afghan-American musician, filmmaker, and activist Ariana Delawari duets with Devendra Banhart on her new single “You Can Love Again.” “I wrote ‘You Can Love Again’ as a mantra of trying to create peace amidst destruction on earth,” she says. “I asked my friend Devendra Banhart to join me on the song, as I felt that our voices together could reach people’s hearts.”

SEA LEMON – “VAPORIZED”
Seattle’s Natalie Lew will release her new EP as Sea Lemon on August 25 via Luminelle. Lead single Vaporized is instantly likable jangly dreampop and comes with a very striking video directed by Otium and Lew. “”Vaporized” was the first song I wrote that I knew specifically would be for the new EP,” Lew says. “The song is all about my personal health anxieties and fear of death, which is something I’ve dealt with since I was little. The chorus’ ‘I thought he was buried alive/out of my mind/I thought she was vaporized/out of my mind’ is playing on the most unlikely, almost impossible ways to die because I think making light of my personal anxieties can help me from spiraling. I have insomnia a lot and wake up in the middle of the night, and used to have this tendency to read headlines while I was awake (a terrible idea), wondering if some horrible accident might happen to me too. The song instrumentally gets a little heavier and more intense each chorus, which implies this impending doom feeling that gets worse and worse as I worry.”

SLOWDIVE – “SKIN IN THE GAME”
Slowdive have shared a second single from their upcoming fifth album, everything is alive. Sung primarily by Neil Halstead, the especially dreamy “skin in the game” really comes alive when Rachel Goswell adds backing vocals on the chorus.

ANASTASIA COOPE – “Tough Sun” & “Seemeely”
Brooklyn psych-folk artist Anastasia Coope has announced her first single in two years, which will be out as a 7″ single via New Gold, the new label started by Liars’ Angus Andrew. “Tough Sun” starts as breathy acapella but steadily adds delicate layers of percussion and acoustic guitar.

LATHE OF HEAVEN – “EKPYROSIS”
Brooklyn band Lathe of Heaven have a sound steeped in echo-y early-’80s post punk (The Chameleons, Killing Joke) and have just signed to Sacred Bones, who will release the band’s debut album, Bound by Naked Skies, on September 1. You can get a taste right now with the driving “Ekpyrosis.”

LAURA GROVES (BLUE ROSES) – “D 4 N” (ft. SAMPHA)
It’s been 14 years since Laura Groves released her self-titled debut LP as Blue Roses, and now she’s finally back with a new album coming under her own name, Radio Red, on August 11 via Bella Union. New single “D 4 N” fuses ethereal folk music with minimal electronics, and it features gorgeous backing vocals by Sampha. Read more here.

MR. GREG & CASS MCCOMBS – “LITTLE WILMA WIGGLY WORM”
Cass McCombs’ new children’s album with Mr. Greg, Mr. Greg & Cass McCombs Sing and Play New Folk Songs for Children, is out in August, and the latest single is “Little Wilma Wiggly Worm.” “During a trip to the school garden, a four-year-old student named Wilder was sifting through the compost pile in search of tiny critters and found a beautiful, pink, wiggly earthworm, which we named Wilma Wiggly Worm,” Mr. G says. “I used the children’s observations about Wilma to write the song, which we sing before sifting through the soil in the garden and reading nonfiction books about garden creatures. The song has since become a classroom favorite—a fun way to introduce com-posting and soil and, of course, earthworms and the other creatures that live underground and in the garden.”

AL MENNE – “KILL ME”
Great Grandpa frontperson Al Menne announced their debut solo LP Freak Accident today with great lead single “Kill Me.” “‘Kill Me’ is not only about unrequited feelings but an almost desperate plea for a platonic reassurance,” Al explains. “I wrote the chorus ‘kill me now please’ as a euphemism for ‘tell me how much you love me…please.’ I was in a low place and really needed to hear it.”

TALKING KIND – “TROUBLE”
“Trouble” is the second-ever release from Talking Kind, the solo project of Spraynard and Big Nothing member Pat Graham. It’s laidback and catchy, with features from Radiator Hospital’s Sam Cook-Parrot and The Goodbye Party’s Michael Cantor. Read more about it here.

SQUIRREL FLOWER – “WHEN A PLANT IS DYING” & “FULL TIME JOB”
Squirrel Flower introduced her new LP Tomorrow’s Fire with a pair of grungy singles: lethargic ballad “When A Plant Is Dying” and anthemic “Full Time Job.”

MOLLY BURCH – “PHYSICAL”
“Physical” is the lead single off Molly Burch’s newly-announced LP Daydreamer, written based on Molly’s experience with PMS. It’s an easygoing, ’80s-inspired synthpop track with production by Jack Tatum.

MJ LENDERMAN – “RUDOLPH”
“‘Rudolph’ was the first song I wrote after the release of Boat Songs,” MJ Lenderman says of his ANTI- debut single. “I had been sitting on the guitar part for a long time and slowly worked out the song whenever I could in between tours in 2022. I finished the lyrics with my friend one late night after a Wednesday gig in Atlanta.”

OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW – “BELLE MEADE COCKFIGHT” FEAT. SIERRA FERRELL
“Belle Meade Cockfight,” the newest offering from Old Crow Medicine Show’s upcoming LP Jubilee, is a rollicking country/bluegrass song with guest vocals from fellow Americana artist Sierra Ferrell.
