So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JULIE CHRISTMAS – “THIN SKIN”
Julie Christmas (of Made Out of Babies and Battle of Mice, Cult of Luna collaborator, and more) shared the third single from her first album in 14 years, Ridiculous and Full of Blood.

THE DECEMBERISTS – “OH NO!”
“‘Oh No!’ is the sort of song that just tumbles out of you,” Colin Meloy says of The Decemberists’ latest single. “It all started with the first line — ‘It was on a wedding night / How they danced by the firelight’ — and flowed from there. In my mind, the narrator of the song is channeling the two brothers from Emir Kusturica’s immortal film, Underground. This song is about causing havoc, causing chaos, its narrator forever followed by an even greater form of chaos, a great darkness. But it’s a darkness you can dance to!” It’s from their new double album As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.

LOMA – “PINK SKY”
“This mischievous little song was a late addition to the album,” says Loma’s Jonathan Meiburg. “We recorded it in a chilly, whitewashed room in southern England, and we didn’t have many instruments to work with at first – just a nylon string guitar, a 2-piece drum set, a Casio keyboard, and a clarinet. But we liked the challenge.” The video was directed by Sabrina Nichols who has worked with The Smile, and Loma’s third album is out June 28 via Sub Pop.

SAMIA – “MAKING BREAKFAST” (TWIN PEAKS COVER)
Ahead of her tour with Bleachers, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Grand Jury, Samia has shared a cover of Twin Peaks’ “Making Breakfast.” “I was already a massive Twin Peaks fan when I met with Grand Jury, so when I signed there I was just so thrilled to be on the same roster as them,” Samia says. “Wild Onion was like a lightning strike of a record. And ‘Making Breakfast’ is just a perfectly-written song, painfully simple and effortlessly cool. It was my first choice as soon as I was approached about doing a cover. I hope we did it justice.”

COLD CAVE – “BLACKBERRIES”
Cold Cave have been dropping singles on the regular this year and “Blackberries” is a darkwave banger.

NICOLE MIGLIS – “ALL I SEE IS YOU”
Hundred Waters vocalist Nicole Miglis has released her debut solo single via Sargent House, the swaying, ethereal ballad “All I See Is You.”

THIS IS LORELEI – “WHERE’S YOUR LOVE NOW”
“‘Where’s Your Love Now’ is equal parts diary entry and song study – trying to use longstanding singer/songwriter strategies to write about the balance between maintaining self-worth and living with a policy of forgiveness,” Water From Your Eyes’ Nate Amos says of his new single as This Is Lorelei. It’s from his new album Box For Buddy, Box For Star, out on June 14.

DIAMANDA GALÁS – “LA LLORONA”
New live album Diamanda Galás – In Concert is out in June, and she’s shared another early look with her take on Mexican folk song “La Llorona.”

STATIC DRESS – “CRYING”
UK post-hardcore band Static Dress are opening Underoath’s They’re Only Chasing Safety 20th anniversary tour, and if you like that album, make sure you’re not sleeping on Static Dress. New single “Crying” does a lot of justice to the music of that era/genre.

HEY, NOTHING – “TIMELINE”
Athens-via-Atlanta duo hey, nothing have shared catchy emo-folk track “Timeline” from their new EP Maine. “‘Timeline’ is for those who inevitably fall in love with people they see at the airport,” they say. “It chronicles a character as they harp over the fact that they won’t get to meet someone they’ve only seen once. It’s told from an almost psychotic perspective and draws out a fantasy that, while a little creepy when exaggerated, is extremely universal.”

SML – “INDUSTRY”
SML is bassist Anna Butterss, synthesist Jeremiah Chiu, saxophonist Josh Johnson, percussionist Booker Stardrum, and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann, and their debut album Small Medium Large comes out on June 28 via the trusty modern jazz/experimental label International Anthem. Here’s lead single “Industry.”

TASHA – “MICHIGAN”
“In October of 2022 I took myself on a writing trip to a friend’s house in Michigan,” Tasha says of her new single. “The little dog I shared with my girlfriend at the time had just died, and the trip was both lonely and extremely creatively fulfilling. I wrote this song near the end of that trip, sitting on the deck, facing the trees and the sky, communing with the birds and other small wildlife. This song is about the missing and the return; the reliable comfort of a sunset on a nice day, a friend to sit with, and the shining hope of more comfort to come. Don’t you feel pretty in this fading light?”

YOUNG JESUS – “AM I THE ONLY ONE” b/w “REMEMBER DRIVING”
Young Jesus have shared “Am I The Only One” from their anticipated new album The Fool (due next week via Saddle Creek), along with the non-album B-side “Remember Driving.”

KISHI BASHI – “COLORFUL STATE”
Kishi Bashi announced a new album, Kantos, due out on August 23 via Joyful Noise. The lead single is “Colorful State,” which gets into prog territory. “‘Colorful State’ is a song about celebrating the complexities of our human lives, how we can feel that we’re in a constant flux between utter joy and sullen uncertainty, and everything in between,” Kishi Bashi says. “This song is a warm embrace of that inevitability of change, and that for every sunset, there will always be a sunrise the next morning.”

TV STAR – “RIDE”
TV Star’s “Ride” is another new track from Supercrush vocalist Mark Palm’s label KR Records’ upcoming Seattle scene comp From Far It All Seems Small.

TINARIWEN – “AZAWAD”
Tinariwen says “Azawad” is “a genuine tribute to the Tuaregs of Northern Mali, deeply affected by ongoing political and social turmoil.”

MATTY (EX-BADBADNOTGOOD) – “FOOL U”
Matty, the solo guise of onetime BADBADNOTGOOD member Matthew Tavares, has signed to Lex Records and will release new album POPS on August 16. The first single, “FOOL U,” is a fuzzy indie rock earworm. Matty says: “‘FOOL 4 U’ is a fun love song, and I had a lot of fun making it. It’s not that deep, it’s just fun music, and I hope you enjoy it!.”

ORB (AUSTALIAN BAND) – “CAN’T DO THAT” & “MORPH”
ORB, the australian psych band who have toured with King Gizzard (and not UK chillout electronic group The Orb) have announced their new album, Tailem Bend, which will be out July 12 via Fuzz Club / Flightless. You can check out two doomy rippers now.

LIANA FLORES – “NIGHTVISIONS”
Folk artist Liana Flores will release her debut album, Flower of the Soul, on June 28 via Verve. If you like ’70s British folk with a dash of tropicalia, give “Nightvisions” a spin.

GUIDED BY VOICES – “CAVEMEN RUNNING NAKED”
Guided by Voices will release their 40th album, Strut of Kings, on June 28, and they say it will be their only album of 2024. They’ve just shared a new song from it, “Cavemen Running Naked,” which is appropriately a real rock basher.

HANNAH MOHAN – “HELL” FT. LADY LAMB
Former And The Kids vocalist Hannah Mohan shared the Lady Lamb-featuring “Hell” from her debut solo album, which you can read more about here.

BETH GIBBONS – “LOST CHANGES”
Portishead’s Beth Gibbons releases her much anticipated, long-in-the-works debut solo album, Lives Outgrown, on Friday, and here’s the final pre-release single. “Lost Changes” is sweeping, gorgeous and mournful — all things you want in a song from Beth.

KATE NASH – “MY BILE”
Kate Nash gave us another early taste of her first album in five years with “My Bile,” which you can read more about here.

CRACK CLOUD – “BLUE KITE”
After two great self-released albums, Vancouver collective Crack Cloud have signed to Jagjaguwar and will release their third album, Red Mile, via the label on July 26. As usual, the group produced it themselves, recording the Mojave desert, which is also where they shot the “skydiving punk” video for first single “Blue Kite” which was also used for the album’s cover.

DEAR FRANCIS – “TOUCHDOWN (4-TRACK)”
Jennifer Clavin of Bleached and Mika Miko has shared the first single from her new solo project, and you can read more about it here.

FAKE FRUIT – “MUCHO MISTRUST”
Fake Fruit have announced their second album, Mucho Mistrust, which will be out August 23 via Carpark. The band made the album with producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Home Is Where) and the album title comes from a Blondie lyric in “Heart of Glass” which here can be taken as a reference to our turbulent times and the state of the music industry. SWAMI & THE BED OF NAILS (ex-HOT SNAKES) – “PRIVACY”
Swami John Reis of Rocket From the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu, Night Marchers, and a handful of others has yet another band, Swami & the Bed of Nails, and Jon says their just-announced debut album grew out of the final Hot Snakes writing sessions in 2023, before Rick Froberg’s untimely death. MILLY – “SPILLING INK”
LA band MILLY’s mix of indie, emo, and shoegaze sounds like something that might’ve come out on Run For Cover in the early/mid 2010s, so it’s a good fit that they’ve got upcoming shows supporting Fiddlehead and Basement. Read about their new single here.

ESPERANZA SPALDING & MILTON NASCIMENTO – “OUTBRO”
Brazilian music legend Milton Nascimento and modern-day jazz icon esperanza spalding have announced a collaborative album, Milton + esperanza, and the first single is a rendition of “Outbro,” which was originally released on Milton’s 1969 album Courage. Read more here.
