So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HUMAN IMPACT – “CORRUPTED”
Great supergroup Human Impact (led by Unsane’s Chris Spencer + members of Cop Shoot Cop, Daughters, and Made Out of Babies) have shared another track from their upcoming LP Gone Dark, and Chris says: “Corrupted: The insatiable greed of big pharma which has forced a large segment of the population into addiction, homelessness, mental illness, and desperation.”

THE KNOCKS – “SMALLTOWN BOY” FT. PERFUME GENIUS (BRONSKI BEAT COVER)
To celebrate 40 years of Bronski Beat’s The Age of Consent, The Knocks and Perfume Genius collaborated on a new cover of “Smalltown Boy.” “When you’re trying to sing an iconic song, you want to make sure that you can do it justice and then also add your own information without fucking with it too much, you know?,” Mike Hadreas says. “So, it’s a tall order but I was really, really excited.”

FUMING MOUTH – “METAL ON METAL”
Massachusetts hardcore-infused death metallers Fuming Mouth have a short tour beginning tonight (9/4) and they’ve shared a brutal new song ahead of that.

FUTURE ISLANDS – “GLIMPSE”
Future Islands have unveiled a previously unheard single recorded while they were making this year’s People Who Aren’t There Anymore, propulsive synth-pop track “Glimpse.”

CHUBBY AND THE GANG – “COCAINE SUNDAY”
Chubby and the Gang branch out from their usual punk/pub rock for a sentimental piano ballad, “Cocaine Sunday.” It’s off their upcoming album And Then There Was….

CHARLOTTE CORNFIELD – “AUDIENCE OF ONE”
“I’ve always been fascinated by the way that fear permeates my dreams,” Charlotte Cornfield says. “It meanders through vaguely recognizable surroundings, attaching itself to shadowy figures along the way. When I wrote this song I was picturing myself in one of those dream states, crashing an out of control vehicle and then performing to no one except a single ghost-like audience member. In the chorus I am reasoning with myself, trying to let go of the fear and worry that haunts me. I recorded ‘Audience of One’ with Josh Kaufman after we had finished making most of Could Have Done Anything. Annie Nero sang this stunning backing vocal, and it just felt like a song that needed to live on its own.”

MAUL – “SPONTANEOUS STIGMATA”
Fargo, ND death metallers Maul’s new album In the Jaws of Bereavement comes out October 4 via 20 Buck Spin, and today they’ve shared new single “Spontaneous Stigmata” with a video shot in studio.

YUNÈ PINKU – “HALF ALIVE”
yunè pinku’s new EP Scarlet Lamb is out in October, and she’s shared another single from it, atmospheric electro-pop track “Half Alive.”

JOHNNY MARR & THE HEALERS – “THE WAY THAT IT WAS”
Johnny Marr is reissuing Boomslang, his 2003 album with solo band The Healers, at the end of the month and it comes with a whole bunch of previously unreleased bonus tracks, including this one.

GEORGIA GETS BY – “NOT THIS TIME”
Georgia Gets By’s new EP Split Lip comes out this Friday, and ahead of its release she’s shared a final advance single, “Not This Time.” “‘Not This Time’ is about returning to an ex and scraping the bottom of the barrel of intimacy,” she says. “Seeking the familiar comfort of their arms around you. Trying to go back to your old home and coming to terms with the fact that you don’t belong there anymore.”

NAIMA BOCK – “FEED MY RELEASE”
“‘Feed My Release’ is mostly about regret,” Naima Bock says. “It’s a simple song I thought wasn’t worth recording for a long time until I started singing it with violinist Oliver Hamilton, and his harmonies brought it to life. Then, Holly Whitaker joined along with her amazing voice, as well as Cassidy Hansen, Clem Appleby, and Meitar Wegman, adding their parts, and the song in its current form was born! It’s a very collaborative arrangement & recording; everyone’s contribution to it is really their own.” Naima’s second solo album, Below a Massive Dark Land, will be out September 27.

RAAVI – “THE UPSIDE”
Ahead of the release of their new EP The Upside next week, Raavi have shared a final advance single, delicate folk track “The Upside,” which Raavi Sita says is “both a love letter and a slight apology to the special people in my life. It’s about taking off my mask with the people I am closest to, being able to acknowledge my shortcomings and ultimately choosing to better myself for the sake of the ones I love. This song is special to me because I always struggled to write about love and this is the first love song I wrote that felt real and worth sharing with the world.”

IBIBIO SOUND MACHINE – THE BLACK NOTES EP
London-based group Ibibio Sound Machine have followed up this year’s excellent Pull the Rope with this EP featuring two new bangers and a pair of remixes.

SAFE MIND – “6′ POLE”
Boy Harsher’s Augustus Muller and LUCY (Cooper B. Handy) have shared their debut single as Safe Mind, darkwave-infused post-punk track “6′ Pole.”

GREG LISHER (CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN / MONKS OF DOOM) – “FINDING THE FUTURE”
You may know Greg Lisher from Camper Van Beethoven and Monks of Doom, but with upcoming solo album, Underwater Detection Method, he heads just a little into trip hop territory as you can hear on this first single. “I purposely stepped outside my comfort zone making Underwater Detection Method,” Greg says. “I wanted to explore a completely different aspect of music that I love. This album might surprise a few people.”

THUS LOVE – “ON THE FLOOR”
VT band THUS LOVE will release their second album, All Pleasure, will be out November 1 and here’s a second track from it. “The video for ‘On The Floor’ was truly a community effort,” say visual collaborators Augie Voss & Benni Shumlin who made the “On the Floor” video. “It’s a timeless, sweaty, rager of a song, and it opens and sets the tone for Thus Love’s new album – and Southern Vermont delivered. We were able to lean into these sensual juxtapositions – skin on metal, oil and sweat; we were literally and figuratively given the keys to these bizarre industrial spaces and machines, that allowed us to let loose like kids in a sandbox. Leather jackets, motorcycles, and junkyards are wonderfully overplayed images, so much that they have lost their context a little bit, which leaves space for play; a cow barn in bondage or a dance with an excavator… in the beautiful world of Thus Love, why not?”

THE SMASHING TIMES – “BEN JIMENY THE GREEN GROCER”
Baltimore’s The Smashing Times fall somewhere between Gerry & The Pacemakers and Television Personalities and will release their fifth album, Mrs. Ladyships and the Cleanerhouse Boys, on October 2 via K Records. Dig new single Ben Jimeny The Green Grocer.”

NONPAREILS (EX-LIARS) – “STRAWBERRY HILL”
Rhetoric & Terror is Berlin-based Aaron Hemphill’s second Nonpareils album since leaving Liars in 2016. “With Rhetoric & Terror, I wanted to start with emotions and feeling. I was playing with my kids, listening to Cocteau Twins, I have a wonderful partner, and it seemed very contrary to any sort of growth to sequester myself from this life in order to get into character as a musician. Instead, I tried to remove the boundaries between my creative life and my responsibilities and have it all be one fluid thing. All things at all times, and trust that this will guide my music rather than more intellectual concepts or limitations.”

MJ LENDERMAN – “WRISTWATCH”
MJ Lenderman releases his anticipated new album Manning Fireworks this Friday (9/6). Today, he put out its fourth single “Wristwatch,” and it’s one of his best songs yet. Read more about it here.

TV ON THE RADIO – “FINAL FANTASY” (2004)
TV on the Radio have announced their first shows in over five years and an expanded 20th anniversary reissue of their 2004 debut album Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes. One of the bonus tracks is the just-released “Final Fantasy,”a 2004 demo of what became “Bomb Yourself.” Read more here.

THE BODY – “END OF THE LINE”
Heavy music duo The Body have announced new album The Crying Out of Things which will be released November 8 via Thrill Jockey. “End of the Line” is a punishing, harrowing track that takes its title seriously.

LOU HAYTER – “3AM”
Lou Hayter’s sleek, clubby “3AM” which Lou says “is exactly what it says in the lyrics.” She adds: “I was wide awake at 3am and sang this into my phone, which happens to me a lot in the night. Then when I made it the next day I felt inspired by things like ‘Too Blind to See It’, produced by Steve Silk Hurley, which was a big tune when I was a kid. These crossover house records have a very special place in my heart as a place and time in my life.” Lou’s new album Unfamiliar Skin is out October 4.

LA FEMME – “CLOVER PARADISE”
After 14 years and five albums, the very French band La Femme have announced their first album that’s fully in English. Bluntly titled Rock Machine, it’s out October 11 via Disque Pointu.

LAUREN AUDER + WENDY & LISA – “I WOULD DIE 4 U”
“It’s hard to impress us with a cover of a Prince song, especially a personal favorite of ours like ‘I Would Die 4 U,’ but Lauren’s voice and vibey sensibilities spoke to us,” Wendy & Lisa say of this Prince cover. “We were happy to lend whatever we could to the project and to Lauren to make the song something special. We’d venture to say that Prince might’ve enjoyed some of the innovation of this version of the song.” This is from new Red Hot compilation TRAИƧA.

IVY – “ALL I EVER WANTED”
Ivy are giving their 2000 album a reissue, including its first-ever vinyl pressing, and it includes a few previously unreleased songs. The sunny “All I Ever Wanted” was discovered by Ivy guitarist Andy Chase and singer Dominique Durand in the band’s archives while working on their reissue of Apartment Life. The song features bassist Adam Schlesinger, who died in 2020, and was produced by Lloyd Cole, who also plays some guitar on it.

PIPE-EYE (MEM KING GIZZARD) – “LORDS OF LITHIUM”
Pipe-eye, the solo project of King Gizzard’s Cook Craig, will release his fourth album Pipe-defy on October 18 via p(doom) records. He made it with his KG bandmates Joe Walker, who produced and mixed, and Michael Cavanagh (drums). “I intentionally wanted to go for a much more ‘hi-fi’ sound for this album, which Joey nailed,” Cook says. “It was definitely a departure from previous Pip-eye sh*t which was always on the ‘lo-fi’ side.”
