So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HAVE A NICE LIFE – “WHEN I GO DEAF” (LOW COVER)
The Flenser are continuing to roll out their Low tribute album, and today they’ve shared Have A Nice Life’s sprawling, eight-minute rendition of “When I Go Deaf.”

PALLBEARER – “ENDLESS PLACE”
Pallbearer’s anticipated Mind Burns Alive is on the way and today they’ve shared a second taste of it, a sprawling, 11-minute song called “Endless Place.”

THE DECEMBERISTS – “ALL I WANT IS YOU”
The Decemberists have shared the third single from their upcoming double album As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again. Colin Meloy says this one’s a love song. “An unapologetic, wear-it-on-its-sleeve love song. I don’t write a ton of those, at least not in this vein… it just kind of wrote itself. It’s so bare bones, it lived for a long time in my songwriting notebook, kind of in hiding, before I got up the courage to put it out there.”

EZRA COLLECTIVE – “AJALA”
UK jazz group Ezra Collective have confirmed a new album for this year and they’ve shared a new single, “Ajala.” Band member Femi Koleoso says the song is about a traveling journalist and adds, “‘Ajala travel’ is slang for someone that can’t sit still. It’s the way a lot of people would describe me, but for me it’s also what a great drum beat does, it’s what great music does to me, it means I can’t sit still and I just want to move. Ajala is all about that movement.”

GABE ‘NANDEZ & WINO WILLY – OBJECT PERMANENCE EP
NYC rapper Gabe ‘Nandez and producer Wino Willy have teamed up for a six-song EP.

BAD MOVES – “LET THE RATS INHERIT THE EARTH”
DC power-poppy indie-punks Bad Moves have a new album on the way, expected this fall via Don Giovanni, and they’ve just shared a second song from it.

FROM INDIAN LAKES – “THE WILDERNESS”
From Indian Lakes have shared another taste of their first album in five years, Head Void, and band leader Joe Vann says, “The fact that it’s a heavy rock song just takes it to a place for me that is specific to the bands I idolized growing up.”

MAKEWAR – “TELL ME”
Brooklyn punks MakeWar have announced a new album, A Paradoxical Theory of Change, due June 28 via Fat Wreck Chords. Vocalist/guitarist Jose Prieto says. lead single “Tell Me” is about “the catharsis of giving up or giving in—when you’ve had enough. You’re sick of fighting for something to change, just to stay where you are. Sick of fighting for a different outcome, so you surrender. But with this surrender, you become free. You grow, accept, and change.”

FLY OVER STATES – “40 STRIPES MINUS ONE”
Fly Over State are releasing an EP called Ghosts on May 24 via Fever Ltd. The band cites Underoath, Glassjaw, and The Chariot as influences, and you can hear that coming through on the 2000s-style post-hardcore of this song.

DUST – “TRUST U SEE”
Aussie post-punk band dust have followed up last year’s et cetera, etc with a new single “Trust U See,” a hazy, five-minute slow-burn that will appeal to fans of Fontaines DC and King Krule. “Trust U See became a staple opening song in the live set, forming it organically into the final version of the song before taking it to the studio,” the band say. “We were able to have a new outlook on recording and experimentation. It was our first time recording properly in a studio and we were able to be very hands on and take time in post production to get the song to express what we wanted.”

AQUASERGE – “JE SUIS GALAXIE”
French band Aquaserge release new album La fin de l’economie on May 24 via Crammed Discs. “Je suis galaxie” rides a motorik psych groove.

BIG SPECIAL – “BLACK DOG / WHITE HORSE”
UK band Big Special are gearing up to release Postindustrial Hometown Blues on May 10 and here’s the latest single which falls somewhere between IDLES and anthemic folk. The video stars Katie Dickie who played Lysa Arryn on Game of Thrones. “‘BLACK DOG / WHITE HORSE’ is about fear, about rumination, intrusive thoughts, and cycles of depression,” says frontman Joe Hicklin. “It’s about trying to figure out how to reach out when feelings of guilt and shame take hold. It’s about recognising these things in others, noticing the lost and undervalued, and their increasing numbers. It comes from a thing I wrote years ago, about a burning snake traveling in the hot sun and a small wren flying high above it to block the heat and give it shade, taking the burden of the sun, because the little bird loves the snake and won’t see it defeated, for whatever reason.”

ANASTASIA COOPE – “SORGHUM”
The latest single from Anastasia Coope’s debut album Darning Woman is freak folk track “Sorghum,” which she says was inspired by overhearing the phrase “She’s with me and I’m not happy about it” in someone’s conversation.

OVERMONO & THE STREETS – “TURN THE PAGE”
Overmono have shared their rework of The Streets’ “Turn the Page” which turns the song widescreen.

ELLIS – “HOME”
ellis has unveiled a final advance single from her new album no place that feels like me ahead of its release this Friday. “This song, “home”, is the thesis of this record,” she says. “Growing up, my family moved a lot, and even in my adult life i’ve struggled to stay in the same place for very long. I think ultimately I have just been searching for a place to belong, both in a geographical sense, but also conceptually. I think it’s what we all sort of want. what that means has changed for me over and over. I’m still just trying to figure it out.”

BLACK FONDU – “SB 1 3”
Born in Ghana and now living in London, Black Fondu is rapper and producer whose new single is both trippy and hard-hitting.

KÁRYYN – “ODAR”
KÁRYYN’s new EP Calm KAOSS! is out next month, and the latest single is “ODAR,” her interpretation of Armenian folk song “Odaroutioun.” “Our Armenian language is an ancient written alphabet, found in the illuminated manuscripts, a language on the endangered language list today,” she says. “The language is threatened further due to the refugee crisis caused by the genocide, and by the crisis which moved and destroyed one of the largest Armenian communities during the 2011 Syrian war. When we speak and sing in Armenian, it is an act of survival and activism. A language from as far back as the 5th century, only Sanskrit and a few others are older.”

SHANNON LAY – “MIRRORS”
“’Mirrors’ explores the idea of learning to recognize what we are holding and decide if it is serving us or not,” says Shannon Lay of her very pretty new single. “It takes radical vulnerability to see and recognize your whole self in a compassionate light. To accept that you deserve peace and to realize it’s right on the other side of being with what you resist. There is nothing wrong with us, we are unique and beautiful and chaotic just like the stars we come from. Love is available at all times and you are its strongest source. Admire your growth as you would any other part of nature. Look up and see your reflection in the sky.”

MAYA HAWKE – “HANG IN THERE”
“The idea of ‘Hang in There’ is when you have someone close to you, who’s going through something awful that you’ve been through earlier in your life, and you know that you can’t interfere because they’ll probably isolate themselves from you,” Maya Hawke says of her new single. “So you have to just watch as they get really hurt. Until they have that moment where they realize they’ve been in a toxic situation all along. Then they come to you, and together, you help them emerge from it. It’s a moment of real happiness when you can witness the pieces all click into place.” It’s from her new album Chaos Angel.

DANIEL DAVIES – “I KNOW WHY”
Daniel Davies, son of The Kinks’ Dave Davies, is one of John Carpenter’s main musical collaborators these days but he spent years in rock bands including Year Long Disaster and Karma to Burn. He has announced solo album Ghost of the Heart which will be out June 21 via Sacred Bones. “Writing a rock album is an expression on how the artist feels, while scoring a film involves creating soundscapes to complement someone else’s story,” Davies says. “With this album, I wanted to merge the heavy guitar riffs from my rock days with the atmospheric synth sounds I’ve been experimenting with as a composer.” The first single is the stomping “I Know Why.”

GIRL IN RED – “GIRLFRIEND IS BETTER” (TALKING HEADS COVER)
The latest track from A24’s Talking Heads tribute album, Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, is girl in red’s take on “Girlfriend Is Better.” “Talking Heads is an iconic band that helped define my identity when I was a teenager and they continue to inspire young people all around the world,” she says. “Being a part of this tribute is so sick and I’m super grateful I was given the opportunity. Talking Heads forever!!!!”

LES SAVVY FAV – “WORLD GOT GREAT”
Les Savy Fav‘s first album in 14 years is out in a couple weeks, and all the singles so far have come with really good music videos; their latest is no different. “World Got Great” was directed by animator and filmmaker Jimbo Matison, who puts Les Savy Fav’s outsized personalities into an homage to ’70s Japanese tokusatsu sci-fi monster shows like Ultraman and Android Kikaider. It’s also mostly done with intricate cardboard cutouts.

LOS BITCHOS – “LA BOMBA”
London-based band Los Bitchos are back with a new single. If you’ve seen the band live in the last year you might have already heard “La Bomba,” which updates their globe-trotting instrumental party music sound with some electronic percussion.

BEINGS (ZOH AMBA, STEVE GUNN, SHAHZAD ISMAILY, JIM WHITE) – “FLOWERS TALK” & “HAPPY TO BE”
Beings is a new supergroup made up of Zoh Amba (saxophone, guitar, vocals), Steve Gunn (guitars), Shahzad Ismaily (bass, synth) and Jim White (drums). “The four of us really fell into something amalgamated that was really spiritually sound and really evocative, really environmental. And that doesn’t always take place, even if the players individually have those qualities,” Ismaily says. Hear two songs from their debut album now.

KIASMOS (ÓLAFUR ARNALDS & JANUS RASMUSSEN) – “BURST”
Kiasmos, the duo of Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen, have announced their first in a decade. It’s titled II and will be out July 5 via Erased Tapes. “II is livelier,” says Janus, “but it still retains the signature Kiasmos style of transitioning from a whisper-quiet ambience to an explosive dance beat that can blow your socks off.”

200 STAB WOUNDS – “HANDS OF ETERNITY”
Rising Cleveland death metallers 200 Stab Wounds have announced their sophomore album, Manual Manic Procedures, and you can read about lead single “Hands of Eternity” here.
