So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM – “LITTLE FIRES”
The Gaslight Anthem have shared another taste of their first album in nine years, History Books, and Brian Fallon calls it “an empowerment song, about refusing to play along with the kind of people who always seem to be throwing a grenade into the room for no particular reason.”

ANJIMILE – “BLACK HOLE”
Anjimile’s new album The King is out this Friday, and ahead of its release he’s shared a final advance single, the buzzing, sinister “Black Hole.”

PUBLIC OPINION & REX TYCOON – “BUG”
Public Opinion and Rex Tycoon have released a collaborative song, and it finds them making the kind of traditional indie rock that will take you back to the classic eras of bands like Built to Spill, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr.

GLADIE – “CHAOS REIGNS”
Ahead of their tour with Jeff Rosenstock, Gladie shared “Chaos Reigns,” which was co-written with AJJ’s Sean Bonnette.

FOREST SWORDS – “THE LOW”
Forest Swords has announced his first new album six years, Bolted, due October 20 via Ninja Tune. Its first single is “The Low,” a dark, murky, trip-hop-leaning song based on a beat that Forest Swords had originally intended for Yoko Ono.

LILTS – “WAITING AROUND”
Laura Wolf and Wild Pink’s John Ross have shared the title track of their new EP as Lilts, the fuzzy, dreamy “Waiting Around.” “I had this scene in my head of being a wallflower at a party,” Wolf says. “Dizzy with relief of being on the outskirts but also craving and being disappointed by the lack of connection. As the lyrics grew, the story became much more about self-worth in the face of setbacks and feeling small.””

PELICAN – “FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT” (UNWOUND COVER)
After covering Karate for Numero Group’s ongoing series of archival reimaginings, Pelican have now shared an Unwound cover. Like the Karate cover, Pinebender’s Chris Hansen is on guest lead vocals.

THE JOY FORMIDABLE – “THE HAT”
The Joy Formidable follow last month’s “Cut Your Face,” which was their first new music since 2021, with “The Hat.” “I feel like your own inner reflections can take on a sensation like being in space,” Ritzy Bryan says. “Alone in the gravity of your own uncertainty, drifting & off balance but aware of how beautiful & extraordinary life is. This track has that sensation of being transported but also moving forward. A nod to the new aperiodic tile that never repeats & your own vows of “never make the same mistake twice.”

GEORGE RILEY – “ELIXIR”
George Riley will release the Un/limited Love EP on November 10 via Ninja Tune, and new single “Elixir” is a thumping dose of R&B-leaning electronic pop.

ALLISON RUSSELL – “DEMONS”
Ahead of the release of her new album The Returner this Friday, Allison Russell shared a final advance single, “Demons.” “We all have our demons and there’s no spell to make them vanish for good,” she says. “I’m not even sure we want such a spell. Demons have their uses. They just don’t get to call the shots anymore—WE PUT EM ON THE BUS BUT WE DIDN’T LET EM DRIVE — that’s what it comes down to. They don’t get to drive, and they can’t steal our joy. And yes that’s an Outkast homage at the end of the song.”

SLAUSON MALONE 1 – “NEW JOY”
Slauson Malone 1 has announced a new album, EXCELSIOR, due October 6 via his new label home, Warp. The album’s new single is the genre-defying “New Joy.”

TEMPS – “LASTBIRTHDAY” FT. BLANCK MASS & GASTON BANDIMIC
James Acaster’s collective Temps release their new After Party EP this Friday, and they’ve followed lead single “firstbirthday” with “lastbirthday,” featuring Gaston Bandimic and Blanck Mass, and accompanied by a video drected by Babak Ganjei.

ANOTHER MICHAEL – “COMMON GROUND”
Another Michael have shared another taste of Wishes To Fulfill, a tender indie-folk-pop song called “Common Ground.”

THE BOUNCING SOULS – “IN THE DARK” (TOOTS & THE MAYTALS COVER), ACTION/ADVENTURE – “HANGING BY A MOMENT” (LIFEHOUSE COVER) & SAD PARK – “SINK TO THE BOTTOM” (FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE COVER)
The last three covers from Pure Noise and PBR’s new covers comp are out, including The Bouncing Souls’ acoustic rendition of Toots & the Maytals’ classic “In The Dark,” Action/Adventure’s pop punk re-imagining of Lifehouse’s “Hanging By A Moment,” and Sad Park putting their twist on a ’90s-era Fountains of Wayne highlight, “Sink to the Bottom.”

SLAUGHTER BEACH, DOG – “ENGINE”
“This song keeps changing for me,” Jake Ewald says of the latest single off Slaughter Beach, Dog’s new album Crying, Laughing, Waving, Smiling, out later this month. “First, I didn’t think it was about anything. Then I thought it was about the van. Then I thought it was about Ian and I couldn’t figure out why the guitar solo kept making me cry. Outside the Sinclair in January, I saw a flyer for a house show and remembered how long we’ve been doing this. Then my heart was in my shoes. Ten years of thinking a different life was right around the corner, selling off all this heavy machinery and making spreadsheets for somebody, futzing with chickenwire, everything more simple Lately this song feels like. a eulogy for the change that never came. Ten years gone and I’m still squirming under freedom’s thumb, too easily forgetting rock’n’roll, my great hulking vessel, a framework to swing from, a history to make home inside of. Forms to learn, rules to break, comrades to find, mysteries turned over ad infinitum, inexplicable monsoons of the heart. I’m still finding myself inside this song, still learning to accept that I lived it. Some of it spooks me. I can hear it in the pain of belonging – standing in one place long enough to not take leaving lightly. Staying put when the outlaws arrive at night. Saying very quietly to no one, this is where I live.”

DU BLONDE FT. SAMUEL T. HERRING – “PELICAN CANYON”
Du Blonde, fka Beth Jeans Houghton, has a new single, “Pelican Canyon,” which features Future Islands’ Samuel T Herring. They say: “The lost track Samuel T. Herring and I wrote together 450 years ago is being released…A gem of a song that encapsulates my early 20’s that I didn’t realise would only last a few years. Who remembers getting into cars with strangers? Me! Would I still do that? Maybe? I don’t know.” The video is “basically a home movie of the trip we took around parts of the USA.”

SCALER (FKA SCALPING) – “LOAM” FT. DANIEL AVERY
UK group Scalping, who released their terrific debut album Void last year, have renamed themselves Scaler and have a new single out. The hard-hitting “LOAM” was produced by Daniel Avery.

DEL WATER GAP FT ARLO PARKS – “QUILT OF STEAM”
“Isa and I had toured together on her first album and became friends and discovered this mutual love for poetry and instrumental music,” Del Water Gap says of this collab with Arlo Parks. “We had both been quite burned out when we first met and when we finally caught some time off and the color started returning to our faces we spent two days with Ethan Gruska. “Quilt of Steam” is what stuck. To me, this song is about coming off tour and feeling scrambled as hell and trying to find some balance and stillness in the midst of all that. It’s about waking up in your own bed for the first time in months and noticing the little details you hadn’t had the capacity to let in while everything was moving around you; lying in bed for a while and watching the steam rise off the radiator. Feeling the poetry come back to your mind. It’s about finding beauty in the mundane but it’s also about the treason of not acknowledging conflict, and trying to keep stoic even when you have no idea where you’re going.” DWG’s new album I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet is out September 29.

HIT BARGAIN – “DEGREE DECREE”
LA’s Hit Bargain, which includes former members of Pains of Being Pure at Heart, These Are Powers, North Highlands, and Cold Beat will release their debut album, A DOG A DEER A SEAL on November 10 via Get Better. Here’s the ripper of a lead single.

SPARKLE DIVISION (WILLIAM BASINSKI) – “OH YEAH”
Sparkle Division, William Basinski’s collaboration with collaboration with Preston Wendel (Shania Taint) and Gary Thomas Wright, is back with new this drum-n-bass-inspired new single. Wendel says it was “born out of the excitement from collaborating with family and close friends. In particular Max Kaplan, whose saxophone leads send the track into outer space, and Craig Varian, who sent us a sick drum break which ignited the fire for the track to be made. Hold on to your butts and get ready to rip thru time and space on this rocket! Oh yeah!!!” Sparkle Division’s new album Foxy is out October 20.

GODCASTER – “LADY SAID A BODY”
Brooklyn’s Godcaaster are gearing up for their fall tour and in anticipation have shared this ethereal new single.

BRAD STANK – “NATTY WINE”
Fans of Adam Green will probably dig this loungey new song from the sonorous Brad Stank. “This is a tongue-in-cheek song I wrote after being gifted a bottle of natural wine by a friend,” says Brad. “I’m a working class boy who would much rather drink shitty lager at a party, Stella or Holsten Pils. I’ve got no right to be writing a song about natty wine but I was feeling bougie. It’s a love song in disguise, I liked the imagery of lyrics like ‘your sweet loving just keeps dripping from the vine’ … Features the only proper guitar solo on the record, and my favourite piece of percussion: the wooden frog.” New album In the Midst of You is out January 26 via Sunday Best.
JOEY NEBULOUS – “HI HELLO BIKE” / “PANCAKE”
Joey Nebulous has a new album called Joey Spumoni Creamy Dreamy Party All The Time due October 6 via Dear Life Records, and here are two new quirky, off-kilter pop songs from it.

YOUFF – “SUNSHINE”
Belgian band Youff will release new album Heydays on October 27 via Bagdaddy Records, Rockerill Records and Love Mazout, and lead single “Sunshine” is a dose of discordant, caterwauling noise rock.

DEATH LENS – “VACANT”
East LA punk band Death Lens have signed to Epitaph, and their first single for the label is the sneering, swaggering, genre-bending punk song “Vacant.” Read more here.
