So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
FUMING MOUTH – “DAYLIGHT AGAIN” & “TIMELESS”
Ahead of their upcoming tour dates (including a run supporting August Burns Red), hardcore/death metal fusionists Fuming Mouth have shared “Daylight Again,” an outtake from last year’s great Last Day of Sun. They’ve also shared “Timeless,” an alternate version of “Out of Time.”

IAN SWEET – “ANTHEMS FOR A SEVENTEEN YEAR-OLD GIRL” (BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE COVER)
“Broken Social Scene’s music has always felt like the equivalent of a hug, and I think at some point everyone has to have *that* moment with ‘Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl,'” Jillian Medford says. “Or maybe you have it more than once. This song hits different for me now than it did when I was actually 17, and I imagine it’ll hit a little different each year I get further away from that version of myself. It so poignantly nails the difficulty of trying to exist within the moment of being a teenager while you’re simultaneously looking towards the inevitable transitions looming on the horizon. You want to cry.. and you should cry. Simply put: It. Fucking. Crushes. And even though covering someone else’s work is weird and strange and almost always feels like perhaps it shouldn’t be done, I’m willing to say effusively that I never want to escape this song. With this small act, perhaps now I can’t! The original is essential, other covers have taken it to amazing places as well, and now I’ve recorded my version hoping a few more people will get to shout the lyrics at the top of their lungs and FEEL FUCKING INCREDIBLE doing so. Here’s hoping a thousand more artists do the same and that this song just never dies.”

ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES – “GOOD 4 U” (OLIVIA RODRIGO COVER)
For almost 30 years, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have been putting out cheeky pop punk covers of non-punk covers, and their latest single is a cover of a song that kind of already is a pop punk song, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U.” They still rev it up and make it snottier though… it is the Gimmes after all. It’s off their upcoming album Blow it…at Madison’s Quinceañera!,, which was recorded live at an actual quinceañera, and they said they learned this song for the occasion “since our usual audience is, well, decidedly not 15.”

WHY BONNIE – “DOTTED LINE”
Why Bonnie signed to Fire Talk Records and shared their first music for the label, “Dotted Line.” Blair Howerton said she wrote it when she was “broke as hell,” and experiencing “the weight of capitalism,” adding, “I was thinking of all the things we’re told are markers of success, and how at this rate, I’ll probably never have any of them.”

WORMED – “AUTOMATON VIRTULAGUE”
Madrid brutal tech-death metallers Wormed have announced their first album in 8 years, Omegon, due July 5 via Season of Mist. The first single is the dizzying “Automaton Virtulague.”

CAROLINE POLACHEK – “STARBURNED & UNKISSED”
The I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack is out later this month, and they’ve shared another track from it, a new one from Caroline Polachek that she produced with regular collaborator A.G. Cook.

UNTO OTHERS – “BUTTERFLY”
Portland, OR’s Unto Others offer up a new dose of campy goth rock revival with “Butterfly,” and they say more music is on the way.

MAITA – “GIRL AT THE BAR”
Portland singer-songwriter Maria Maita-Keppeler announced a new album as MAITA, want, due out on July 26 via Fluff & Gravy Records. The first single is “girl at the bar,” which Maria says is “a song that explores the way our memory of painful events can continue to resurface and shape our lives within a relationship. It explores the idea of trying to become the person that you imagine your partner desires at the cost of personal erasure, or in a way that compromises one’s own personhood. It’s the desire to shed the image of oneself formed with a long term relationship, to become something sexy or uncomplicated, to become a stranger to a partner in order to churn up some fire.””

CALCINE – “BACK TO FIGHT”
Paris metallic hardcore band Calcine have announced their debut LP, Common Love Common Nausea, due June 2 via Church Road. Lead single “Back To Fight” is a pretty killer first taste.

MARGAUX – “PICTURE IT”
Margaux’s debut album Inside the Marble is out next month, and she’s shared the third single, “Picture It.” “After graduating in 2021 I was having some deep dread about what the future might look like,” she says. “There was the obvious uncertainty from closing the chapter of school one year into a pandemic, but also a deeper sense of fear surrounding death that really consumed me at the time. ‘Picture It’ is about desperately wanting to know in advance. Sonically I was trying to express the feeling of getting caught in a dread type thought loop… Sahil and I had fun experimenting with some more synthetic sounds throughout the arrangement including the use of a Farfisa and some Subsequent 37 bring out that heaviness. In contrast, Reid Jenkins contributed these beautiful soaring violin lines that for me really express that yearning feeling of simply wanting to know.”

BANDMANRILL – “ANTISOCIAL”
Newark, NJ rapper Bandmanrill branches out from his usual Jersey club/drill for the chipmunk soul-infused “Antisocial.”

WINNETKA BOWLING LEAGUE – “AMERICA IN YOUR 20’S”
“‘America in your 20’s’ is my own bullshit about loving and hating where I come from,” Winnetka Bowling League vocalist Matthew Koma says of their latest single. “You ask a lot of questions in your 20’s and I think that’s when you start to realize the answers are all gray and nuanced.” It’s from their debut album Sha La La, out later this month.

THOMAS POWERS – “EMPTY VOICES” FT. JULIEN BAKER
The Naked and Famous’ Thomas Powers is releasing his debut solo album, A Tyrant Crying In Private, on May 17, and Julien Baker features on “Empty Voices.” “I’m incredibly honored to have Julien’s vocals and writing contributions on ‘Empty Voices,'” Powers says. “We connected over Twitter DM’s back in 2017 – she was a fan of The Naked And Famous, and I had thrashed her first album, Sprained Ankle, while finishing up TNAF’s Simple Forms. During the quiet lockdown of 2020, I reached out to see if she was interested in collaborating on one of my solo tracks. She recorded most of her parts at her home studio and sent me some improvisational vocal ideas. These were so exciting that I decided to make a new track with them, which became ‘Little Lungs.’ We met up in person, here at my home studio in LA to wrap up ‘Empty Voices.’ We blasted through the recording and spent most of our studio time hanging out, watching the sunset up on a hill in Echo Park.”

DOVE (BICEP) – “CHROMA 003 Bi83”
Fresh off their Coachella set, UK dance duo BICEP have shared a new single under their DOVE alias. They say: “DOVE will hopefully be a place where we can put more singular ideas down, less focused on complete songs and more on experimental concepts we work on in the studio. For example, this first release was about restricting ourselves to human voices and acid to make the majority of sounds. Long-term we would like DOVE to lean into the sounds we grew up with, with a rave leaning aesthetic, but at this stage we’re just excited to start growing it and see where it goes.”

KING PRINCESS – “DIRTY WORK” (STEELY DAN COVER)
King Princess’ new Steely Dan cover is from the third season of Hacks. “Hacks is hilarious and so is my good bud, Hannah Einbinder,” King Princess says. “She asked me to sing ‘Dirty Work’ and it was a no brainer. Everyone should watch this show, it’s tremendously iconic.”

THE WAEVE (GRAHAM COXON & ROSE ELINOR DOUGALL) – “CITY LIGHTS”
The WAEVE, aka Blur‘s Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall, are back with their first new music since their 2023 debut. “City Lights” was produced by the very busy James Ford (who worked on their debut and Blur’s The Ballad of Darren) and is a danceable widescreen ripper, with a nagging, distinctly Blur-y guitar riff, and it gives Coxon a chance to show off his saxophone skills too.

MOON DIAGRAMS – “VERY MUCH MY PROMISE TO YOU”
Moon Diagrams, the solo project of Deerhunter‘s Moses Archuleta, has announced new album Cemetery Classics, which will be out June 21 It’s his first release since the 2019 Trappy Bats mini-album and the follow-up to Moon Diagrams’ 2017’s debut Lifetime of Love. It features contributions from Cindy Lee‘s Patrick Flegel, Gang Gang Dance’s Josh Diamond, and Anastasia Coope who sings on this first single.

Washed Out has announced his fifth album, Notes from a Quiet Life, which will be out June 28 via Sub Pop. This is the first single.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from long-running dreampop / shoegaze band Mahogany. Eleven years to be exact, if we’re talking about new music, and they’re finally back with a new single.

HARD CHILLER (FROM INDIAN LAKES, RX BANDITS) – “CLOUDS”
Hard Chiller is a new band formed by From Indian Lakes leader Joe Vann and RX Bandits/The Sound of Animals Fighting/The Chinkees guitarist Steve Choi, and their lineup is rounded out by drummer Casey Deitz (The Velvet Teen) and bassist Roger Camero (No Motiv), the same rhythm section that Steve played with in the supergroup Peace’d Out. Their debut EP Heavy Cell is coming 6/28 via Born Losers, and you can read about lead single “Clouds” here.
