So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE – “SOMETHING’S ENDING” & I”VE BEEN EVIL”
Spirit of the Beehive have shared two more tracks from their upcoming album You’ll Have To Lose Something, and they segue directly into each other and come with a Kelsea Dakota Larson-directed video. The songs find the band’s experimental art pop in fine form, and for the video, Kelsea says, “We took the titles literally, and wanted to highlight the darkness that can be right under your nose in a beautiful little mountain town, or anywhere really, while outsiders carry on.”

SOPHIE – “BERLIN NIGHTMARE” FT. EVITA MANJI
Here’s another early taste of SOPHIE’s highly anticipated posthumous album, the clubby, minimal “Berlin Nightmare.”

MOOR MOTHER – “LIVERPOOL WINS (MOVEMENT 3)”
Moor Mother will release a deluxe edition of this year’s The Great Bailout this Friday (7/26) via ANTI-, and it comes with re-imagined orchestral versions of three of the album’s songs. Here’s the 20-minute “Liverpool Wins (Movement 3).”

THRESHOLD – “DON’T SAY GOODBYE”
Isaac Eiger, formerly of Strange Ranger (who broke up in 2023), has been releasing music as Threshold, and his latest single is this eerie, off-kilter ballad.

WORLDS GREATEST DAD – “THE OCEAN”
Worlds Greatest Dad have shared “The Ocean,” a propulsive indie rock song from their upcoming album Better Luck Next Time. About this one, singer/guitarist Maddie Duncan says:
I spent most of my childhood in Florida, running through the swamp and swimming in the ocean. I know people love to shit on the place, but I’m a Florida Man at heart. It’s a wild and weird place, complete with beautiful landscapes and wildlife, some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and hate speech plastered on yard signs. Similarly, “The Ocean” is also a mixed bag, minus the hate speech and add some self-deprecating thoughts that I probably have because of all of the hate speech. A little “cApItALisM sucks” and dulls you as time goes on, but also a little love letter to a special place and person that always brings me back to that same freedom and state of joy I felt as a child. This one goes out to all the weirdos and queers that struggle with their love for a place that doesn’t always love them back.

MALICE K – “YOU’RE MY GIRL”
AVANTI, Malice K’s debut full-length album, is out next month via Jagjaguwar, and he’s shared another advance single, the garagey “You’re My Girl.”

CHRYSTABELL + DAVID LYNCH – “THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS”
Finally, David Lynch is giving us “The Answers to the Questions.” If you can understand what Chrystabell is singing at least and the questions being answered are probably not “Where is Audrey?” or “What does garmonbozia taste like?” These are more questions of the heart. Their new album. is out next week.

DUENDITA – “PLANETARY”
duendita are back with their first new music since 2022, the soulful “planetary.”

NAIMA BOCK – “GENTLE”
“I’ve lived with this song for a couple of years,” Naima Bock says of “Gentle,” which is from her upcoming second solo album. “It’s a kind of copy and paste of different sections of my life, each verse is a different version of myself or situation I was in. None of them link in reality, but they fit together in this song, which leaves me with a sense of union and satisfaction. I would like to allow for the listener to take the lyrics in whatever way is relevant to them. I can say it’s my favourite song to play and one of my favourite songs that I’ve written. It means a lot to me.”

HiNDS – “SUPERSTAR”
“‘Superstar’ talks about the disappointment and the pain you feel when someone you love deeply, disappears with no explanation,” Hinds say. “You feel worthless, you start thinking you never really knew that person and you question your shared past, and if what you remember really happened. It’s hard to let people go but writing this song helped. People need closure, and this song is ours.” It’s from their new album Viva Hinds.

A CERTAIN RATIO – “CLOCKWORK ORANGE”
Dan Carey produced A Certain Ratio’s 2024 album It All Comes Down to This and now he’s released their brand new single on his label, Speedy Wunderground. “A long time ago when I was a teenager, I was out in Manchester and spotted a poster that said something about A Certain Ratio remixed by Norman Cook,” says Carey. “At the time I didn’t really know what a remix was, who Norman Cook was, or who/what A Certain Ratio was, but somehow I knew it was worth investigating. As a result, I discovered ACR, figured out what remixes were, and started trying to do my own. I’ve loved ACR ever since.” ACR’s Martin Moscop adds, “We spent a day recording the song with Dan Carey and arranged to pick up our equipment the following morning at 10am. Dan had been up since 8am working on the elements of the song and as we walked into the studio our jaws dropped. He had transformed the song into something very dark, different and full of interest factor. We left the studio on a real high telling Dan to carry on in that direction and make it as heavy as he possibly could. It was a real eureka moment.”

EFTERKLANG – “TO A NEW DAY” FT. SØNDERJYSK PIGEKOR
The latest single from Efterklang’s new album Things We Have In Common, “To a New Day,” features the South Denmark Girls’ Choir. “The song truly came into its own when we returned to Copenhagen recording with a wonderful lineup of musicians,” vocalist Casper Clausen says. “Hector Tosta’s immediate response to the song was these beautiful decorative melodies and arrangements injected a new dimension into the track, reminiscent of orchestral Beach Boys albums. It was as if the song had been yearning for this warm, playful energy, a Venezuelan soul to breathe new life into it, unbeknownst to us.”

TALL JUAN – “DARK HOLE”
“This song explores the juxtaposition of despair and the acceptance of darkness, dedicated to anyone who has faced profound sadness,” says Tall Juan of “Dark Hole,” the first single from his upcoming album Raccoon Nights. “It paints a vivid picture of my mind during those times, feeling lost and disconnected while battling a suffocating sense of loneliness. I wonder if this song will resonate with listeners who have experienced similar feelings, and I hope it gives a voice to those navigating their own dark holes. In the video, directed by Matthew Volz, we aimed to convey that we can always embrace darkness and find rebirth within it.”

GLACIAL TOMB – “ABYSSAL HOST”
Denver sludge/death metal band Glacial Tomb (whose guitarist/vocalist Ben Hutcherson is also in Khemmis) have announced a new album, Lightless Expanse, and the first single is the atmospheric and gruesome “Abyssal Host.”

MAMALEEK – “LEGION OF BOTTOM DECK DEALERS”
Mamaleek, who are touring with Chat Pile later this year, have shared an eerie new song from their upcoming album Vida Blue, due August 9 via The Flenser.

ENUMCLAW – “NOT JUST YET”
Tacoma, WA indie rockers Enumclaw have shared another song from their upcoming Run For Cover debut, Home In Another Life, “Not Just Yet.” It was written as an ode to band members Aramis Johnson & Eli Edwards’ Uncle Mike, who was recently diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers, and who Aramis calls the man who “taught him everything.”

SINAI VESSEL – “CHALLENGER”
Sinai Vessel’s new album I SING comes out this Friday (7/26) via Keeled Scales, and here’s one more single from it, “Challengers.” Caleb Cordes (aka Sinai Vessel) says:
This song – as with much of I SING – is concerned with aging into a phase of life where survival under capitalism has the potential to complicate all kinds of relationships. It particularly deals with my experience dating a partner from a more well-off background – something that dredged up a lot of surprising issues for me by no fault of that person at all. It’s also simply about the effort to maintain some sense of health in a world that can constantly feel quite threatening.

WOUNDED TOUCH – “SUBMITTED FOR (DIS)APPROVAL”
Wounded Touch and fallfiftyfeet are two of the best newer metalcore/mathcore bands around, so it’s exciting news that they’re teaming up for a split EP. One of the Wounded Touch songs is out now and you can read about it here.

JOHN DAVIS (SUPERDRAG) – “THE FUTURE”
There were rumblings of a new Superdrag album being in the works, but instead, that project ended up becoming a new solo album by singer/guitarist John Davis. It’s called JINX, and you can read about lead single “The Future” here.
