So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
MAYHEM – “WEEP FOR NOTHING”
Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem will follow 2019’s Daemon with their seventh album, Liturgy Of Death, on February 6 via Century Media. The seven-minute lead single “Weep For Nothing” finds them sounding as towering and creepy as you’d hope.

WITCH POST – “TWIN FAWN”
Witch Post, the duo of Alaska Reid and Dylan Fraser, have shared another new single, their second for Partisan. “This song is about chasing memories, or yearning for a misremembered, simpler time,” Alaska says. “It’s a love letter to Dylan and I’s differing experiences on the West Coast; coyotes, beach glass, driving home at 3am, stuck on the freeway staring at the sunset… As Witch Post, our memories become as fantastical and intertwined as twin fawns.”

UNDERSCORES – “DO IT”
In addition to appearing on the new Danny Brown album that’s out this week, NYC hyperpop artist underscores has shared her own new single, “Do It,” which will appear (along with recent single “Music”) on her upcoming third album. Both the song and the video find underscores putting a chaotic twist on early 2000s R&B.

SPELLLING – “DESTINY ARRIVES” FT. WEYES BLOOD
“Weyes Blood has been a dream artist to collaborate with for a long time now,” SPELLLING says. “I’m so honored to have her timeless voice on this reimagined version of ‘Destiny Arrives.’ She stepped into the song so gracefully and added such an epic glow to the feeling of the song through her own lyrical contribution and very intimate interpretation of the song.”

DEATHCRASH – “TRIUMPH”
UK band deathcrash have released their first new song in two years, and it finds them somewhere between sludge, slowcore, and ’90s emo.

RUNO PLUM – “ALLEY CAT”
“Social anxiety, a neurodivergent struggle of mine!,” runo plum says. “Socializing can feel like standing on the edge of a cliff. I don’t drink anymore but alcohol used to help numb that anxiety (i.e. the lyrics ‘browned out’). The long outro makes me feel like it’s 4am, I’m in my room laying on my back on the floor in a starfish position, and I’m astral projecting or something.” It’s from her debut LP patching, out next Friday.

JOSÉ GONZÁLEZ – “PAJARITO”
“Now and then I want to write songs that are timeless, simple, and carefree,” says Jose González of his new single. “‘Pajarito’ is about growing up, learning things, and eventually becoming independent. As usual, there’s also an existential undertone—the meaning of life is something that can emerge gradually as one gets to know the world, more as something you discover for yourself and not necessarily something dictated from above. This one is inspired by songs like “59th Street Bridge Song” (Simon & Garfunkel) and “Río” (Silvio Rodríguez). But also by all the children’s songs that have become part of our everyday life in recent years (Alice Tegnér, Georg Riedel, María Elena Walsh).”

ANDREW BIRD – “CAPITAL I”
Andrew Bird has shared another previously unheard track off his upcoming The Mysterious Production of Eggs 20th anniversary box set, “Capital I.”

THE HIVES – “ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET”
“Every time we pick up our latest album a new hit single falls out,” Howlin’ Pelle Alqvist says of The Hives’ new single. :This time it is ‘Roll Out The Red Carpet’. A song 20 years in the making. Now it’s yours.”

ROMY – “LOVE WHO YOU LOVE”
“My new song Love Who You Love is a proudly queer love song,” Romy says. “It was also really important to me to acknowledge that the world is STILL such a challenging place for so many of us to show our love openly in the LGBTQ+ community. In reaction to that I wanted to write a song that not only celebrates and uplifts love as well as calls for change. The history of resilience and togetherness in the face of unbelievable challenges within the community is so powerful. Personally, finding friends, family and people I look up to and learn from – through queer clubbing has made me feel so much less alone and braver in so many aspects of life. These experiences and the people I’ve met, continue to be so inspiring to the music I’m making and this song intends to be a love letter of visibility and pride. No one can take the love you feel away from you — it’s yours.”

The new single from Barry Adamson’s upcoming album SCALA!!! pays tribute to the late great Divine, star of so many John Waters movies.

JORDANA – “BLOUSE”
Jordana’s new EP Jordanaland arrives this Friday, and ahead of its release she’s shared a final advance single, “Blouse.” She says it’s “a song about wanting someone to realize there’s a romantic connection underneath the superficial reasons. Through a one-sided passionate intimacy, shouting into the ether, questioning if tender moments with each other could mean anything more than just a physical relationship.”

Whitney’s new album Small Talk is out Friday and here’s one last early preview which features Madison Cunningham.

INSECURE MEN (EX FAT WHITE FAMILY) – “CLEANING BRICKS”
Former Fat White Family member Saul Adamczewski is back with a new Insecure Men album, A Man For All Seasons, which is out this Friday. “I’ve had this song since before the Fat Whites,” Saul notes of “Cleaning Bricks,” the album’s new single. “Me and Nathan (Saoudi, Fat White Family keyboard player) had a job at Camberwell Grove where we used to have to go and wipe the cement off a huge pile of old London bricks. We’d just sing this chorus song about cleaning bricks. But over the years, people kept saying it was really catchy. I always thought it was a joke. Every time I’d see (producer and Speedy Wunderground label head) Dan Carey, he’d say: have you done that Cleaning Bricks song yet? I’m glad I did it because it sounds pretty good. It’s a pop song, it’s fun. I wanted it to be like Jessie’s Girl. Real cheese but good cheese.”

CHERRY I – “MISTAKE”
London four-piece Cherry I have released this new single, produced by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Yard Act) that is equal parts sludgy and cinematic.

NEW FOUND GLORY – “TREAT YOURSELF”
Pop punk veterans New Found Glory have shared another taste of their upcoming album Listen Up!, and guitarist Chad Gilbert says they went for a “fast more west coast punk style song” on this one, which you can definitely hear. We’ve also got an exclusive color vinyl variant up for pre-order.

HAYWARDxDÄLEK (THIS HEAT, DÄLEK) – “RE-EVOLUTION”
This Heat drummer Charles Hayward and MC dälek of industrial rap group dälek have a collaborative album as HAYWARDxDÄLEK arriving December 5 via Relapse. Here’s the breakbeats-fueled “Re-Evolution.”

FLESHER (ex-SKELETONWITCH) – “INCITING MUTILATION”
Midwest death metal trio Flesher (whose lineup includes former Skeletonwitch drummer Dustin Boltjes) have announced their sophomore EP, Gore On Gore, due November 21 via Maggot Stomp. Here’s the sludgy, swampy new single “Inciting Mutilation.”

PINKSHIFT – “EYELESS” (SLIPKNOT COVER, LIVE IN BROOKLYN)
Pinkshift did a faithful, kickass cover of “Eyeless” from Slipknot’s 1999 self-titled album at Brooklyn Steel earlier this year, and now they’ve released an official live recording of that cover from that show.
