So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HOLLY HERNDON – “ETERNAL RE-IMAGINED”
Holly Herndon has shared a re-imagined version of “Eternal” from 2019’s Proto, remixed and re-orchestrated by composers Vince Pope and Alex Davies.

ZAC FARRO (PARAMORE) – “MY MY”
Paramore drummer Zac Farro has announced a new solo album, Operator, his first under his own name after a string of albums under the Halfnoise moniker, due July 18 via his own Congrats Records. First single is the folky, George Harrison-esque “My My.”

TOPS – “FALLING ON MY SWORD”
TOPS guitarist David Carriere says his love of hardcore punk inspired the new single from the gentle Montreal indie pop band. “We were joking around quite a bit when we started writing this song,” he says, “Jane was playing bass which is very out of the norm for us. It’s written from the perspective of a teen girl who thinks that everyone sucks and the societal norm of monogamous commitment is pathetic. I guess it could be from the perspective of an adult as well. We tried to lay the song out in the form of a hardcore punk/beatdown tune, with tritone power chords and a breakdown (for moshing). In the end it sounds more like a TOPS song than anything else but it was a fun diversion that led us to a cool new place.” TOPS’ new album Bury the Key is out August 22 via Ghostly.

FOLK BITCH TRIO – “MOTH SONG”
Folk Bitch Trio release their debut LP, Now Would Be a Good Time, next time on Jagjaguwar, and the latest single is “Moth Song,” a gentle folk track with lush harmonies. Gracie Sinclair says it’s about “being so spun out by everything that you feel like you’re delusional and hallucinating crazy things.”

TORTOISE – OGANESSON REMIXES
Tortoise’s spring single “Oganesson” — their first for International Anthem — has now been remixed by Saul Williams, Broken Social Scene, Makaya McCraven, The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney and mastering engineer Heba Kadry for a new EP that contains the original version as well. It’s out digitally now and will be out physically on September 12.

TERRY RILEY WITH SARA MIYAMOTO – “KOMOL RESHAB ASAVARI”
Minimalist icon and composer Terry Riley turned 90 today and to celebrate he shared this new piece that’s a collaboration with Sara Miyamoto. “Komol Reshab Asavari” is from the upcoming Red Hot + Kronos Quartet album and is a response to the dangers of nuclear war. Happy birthday, Terry!

GOLOMB – “STARING”
Here’s the second hazy, hard-hitting single from Columbus, OH trio Golomb’s forthcoming No Quarter debut.

DOG EYES – “NANO”
Bay Area indie folk duo dog eyes are releasing a new EP, blue bird rain cloud, on July 25 via Grand Jury, and the latest single is “nano,” which is about “an ancient iPod re-envisioned as a lighthouse.” Hailey Firstman says, “Nano was born from Davis sending me some guitar he’d written and I experimented with singing over it. The lyrics were very stream of consciousness and culminated into a sort of dreamlike feeling, zooming in and out quickly from small to big. ‘Nano iPod, lighthouse in the fog,’ is my favorite line, thinking back to childhood holding my beat up pink nano, it felt like I was holding a whole world. That concept in general feels very woven throughout the whole ep. Small feeling big and big feeling small.”

HUNX AND HIS PUNX – “NO WAY OUT”
Fly the friendly skies of Punk Airlines in this fun video for Hunx & His Punx’s new single from upcoming album Walk Out on This World.

LATHE OF HEAVEN – “AURORA”
Brooklyn’s Lathe of Heaven channel ’80s gothy post-punk like The Sound, The Chameleons and The Lucy Show, and will release new album Aurora on August 29 via Sacred Bones. Here’s the title track.

FREEZING COLD – “BACKLIGHT”
Freezing Cold, the band co-founded by singer/guitarist Jeff Cunningham (Bridge & Tunnel, Ordinary Lives, etc) and drummer Angie Boylan (Aye Nako, Cheeky, touring/session member of Sleater-Kinney, etc), have announced their sophomore album, Treasure Pool, due August 1 via Don Giovanni. First single “Backlight” is a very nice dose of melodic, emotional indie-punk.

NOVEMBERS DOOM – “MAJOR ARCANA”
Chicago death-doom vets Novembers Doom have announced a new album, Major Arcana, due September 19 via Prophecy Productions. Here’s the towering title track.

SOWULO – “ĀSTEORFAN”
Dutch dark folk band Sowulu have signed to Season of Mist for their new album NIHT, which arrives on August 29. The first single is the stirring “Āsteorfan.”

ERODE – “COILED”
Baltimore metalpunks Erode will follow a string of EPs/promos with their first full-length, Devout, on July 18 via DAZE. Here’s the harsh lead single “Coiled.”

IF IT RAINS – “FOGLAKE” & “HOW’S IT GOING TO END?”
If It Rains, the hardcore band led by Evan Stein (who played in now-defunct bands Anklebiter and Broken Vow), dropped a promo via Delayed Gratification Records with two fast-paced rippers.

COSMIC JOKE – FORCED PERSPECTIVE EP
Cosmic Joke make the kind of bratty, catchy hardcore that ruled California in the early ’80s (their recent Welcome to L.A. covers EP has covers of Bad Religion, Adolescents, X, and Agent Orange, to give you an idea), and today they’re back with a new EP that has four new original songs in that style plus a punky cover of the Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer.” It was produced, engineered, and mixed by Taylor Young, and it’s out via Triple B/HardLore Records.

OLDSOUL – “TOLD YOU SO”
Oldsoul are back with “Told You So,” an appealing mix of emo and indie rock that sounds as good in 2025 as it would have in 1995.

TWIABP – “SE SUFRE PERO SE GOZA” (ft. BRENDAN MURPHY OF COUNTERPARTS/END)
The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die have announced a new album, Dreams of Being Dust, and it seems like it’s gearing up to be much heavier than anything else they’ve ever released. “One of the first bands I bonded with [drummer] Steve [Buttery] about was Snapcase, but that was in 2011 when we were this light indie, post-rock-leaning band,” says guitarist and in-house producer Chris Teti. “But with this fifth album, we just said ‘Fuck it.’” New single “Se Sufre Pero Se Goza” features Brendan Murphy of hardcore bands Counterparts and END.
