So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SHYGIRL – “IMMACULATE” (ft. SAWEETIE)
Shygirl, who’s been opening Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s Sweat Tour and appears on Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, has teamed with Saweetie for the new experimental pop/rap hybrid “Immaculate.”

SOPHIE JAMIESON – “CAMERA”
Sophie Jamieson’s new album i still want to share is due out on January 17 via Bella Union, and the latest single is the beautiful, orchestral “Camera.” “I wrote this song when my heart was broken and I was trying to hold everything when it didn’t want to be held,” she says. “I wanted to be able to draw an outline around the pieces, fit them into a frame. Something in me knew that I’d find some peace if I just let things stay blurry, but everything in me wanted to find some focus. This song is the yearning, wrenching of trying to define a love that was less simple, more layered and less graspable than I could accept.”

ROMY & SAMPHA – “I’M ON YOUR TEAM” (co-prod. THOMAS BARTLETT)
Romy of The xx and Sampha have teamed up with Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) for a goosebump-inducing piano ballad, “I’m On Your Team.”

YEULE – “EKO”
According to a press release, yeule’s new single eko is “a first glimpse into a forthcoming project to come.” They produced it with regular collaborator Chris Greatti, and it has more of an immediate, pop feel than their softscars material.

HAYWIRE – “FEELING DEPRESSED?”
Boston hardcore band Haywire, who are opening for God’s Hate in Brooklyn in November, have announced a new EP, For Better Or For Worse, due November 7 via DAZE. Lead single “Feeling Depressed?” finds Haywire embracing some classic ’80s hardcore vibes, with a few chuggy, metallic parts in the mix too.

EZRA FURMAN & ALEX WALTON – “TIE ME TO THE TRAIN TRACKS” & “BEAT ME UP”
“We made this song in a burst of neurotic passion at her old house in Roxbury, Boston one chronically-ill afternoon,” Ezra Furman says of her new single with Alex Walton. “The chains of luv had got us in their mortal grasp and it all came pouring out. And there’s a B-side (‘Beat Me Up’) too, out of this miniature masochistic fragment I’d made up which she then made into a brilliant full song, played and recorded entirely by her, that hits hard and leaves a mark. I don’t know how she does it but I feel lucky to do it with her.”

KOYO – “I MIGHT GET THROUGH ALL OF THIS”
Koyo have put an airy, keyboard-driven twist on “I Might Not” from their debut LP Would You Miss It? for this reworked version, titled “I Might Not Get Through All Of This.” It’ll appear on the band’s new EP Mile A Minute, due 11/12 via Pure Noise.

ANNA MCCLELLAN – “OMAHA”
Ahead of the release of her new album Electric Bouquet this Friday, Anna McClellan has shared a final advance single, charming indie folk track “Omaha.” “Omaha is smoking cigarettes and drinking beers on the porch until 4 am any day of the week,” she says. “Omaha, at least to me, is being so completely known and utterly lonely. Omaha is driving around. It’s a beautiful thing really.”

MAMMOTH GRINDER – “UNDYING SPECTRAL RESONANCE” (LIVE)
Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh’s band Mammoth Grinder have shared an official live recording/video of the title track of their upcoming first release in six years, Undying Spectral Resonance.

MALLRAT – “HOCUS POCUS”
Following her August single “Ray of Light,” Mallrat has shared another new track, the clubby “Hocus Pocus.” “I fell over and fractured my arm dancing to this demo on a walk home,” she says. “I couldn’t help but be excited! I had to wear a cast and sling. When I was writing the pre-chorus section of this song I was thinking of the sharp inhale breaths as lyrics that needed their own moment, kind of like a punchline. A lot of the time in pop music, breaths are edited out and turned down, but they felt important here to me.”

SKELETEN – “VIAGRA”
Sydney artist Skeleten (aka Russell Fitzgibbon) has announced his sophomore album, Mentalized, due February 7 via 2MR/Astral People, and here’s the electronic indie pop of new single “Viagra.”

AMINÉ – “PASSENGER PRINCESS” (ft. SMINO) & “ADAM”
Portland melodic rapper Aminé is back with his first two songs of 2024, one featuring Smino.

THE NATIONAL – 4 MORE TRACKS FROM LIVE ALBUM ROME
The National’s great live show is being immortalized on the upcoming live album Rome, and four more tracks are out today: “Terrible Love,” “Fake Empire,” “Mr. November,” and “Smoke Detector.”

OPEN HEAD – “HOUSE”
Kingston, NY band Open Head have announced their debut album, What Is Success, that will be out January 24 via Wharf Cat. The album includes recent single “Catacomb” and the new single is the dark, driving “House,” which they say “imagines a machine made of flesh and metal limbs, trekking along in some sort of destructive tortured state.” Fans of FACS should check this one out.

ART D’ECCO – “SERENE DEMON”
Canadian singer-songwriter Art d’Ecco will release Serene Demon on Febraury 14 via Paper Bag. He’s shared the title track, a string-laden glammy rock ballad. “I’ve always been fascinated with the seduction of evil that lurks within us, and not just the archetype of the angel and the devil on each shoulder,” Art says. “That song is the most challenging thing I’ve ever written.” Watch the Theo Kim-directed video:

SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY – “AFTERLIFE”
Sharon Van Etten wrote her new album with her band The Attachment Theory which includes TEEN’s Teeny Lieberson. First single “Afterlife” is dark, moody, synth-heavy rock.

FRIKO – “IF I AM”
Friko announced an expanded edition of their full length debut, this year’s great Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, and shared one of the bonus tracks, which you can read more about here.
