So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
DARKSIDE – “HELL SUITE (PT. II)”
Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington release new DARKSIDE album, Nothing, this week which is their first record since becoming a trio with new drummer Tlacael Esparza. Here’s one last appetizer before you get to sink your teeth into the whole thing.

MARLON WILLIAMS – “KĀHORE HE MANU E” (FEAT. LORDE)
You may remember Marlon Williams and Lorde previously collaborated on a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest” back in 2021 and now here they are together again on this song from Williams’ upcoming album. Says Lorde: “Over the course of several years I watched Marlon pull at the threads that became Te Whare Tīwekaweka. I saw that the further he got into the album, the deeper my friend came to know himself, his whānau and his world at large. Marlon is an undercover perfectionist, and he was never going to embark on this journey without turning over every stone, crafting complex waiata that speak to the past while also braiding in his characteristic humour and X-ray vision. Singing with Marlon is one of my favourite things to do on earth, whether we are tipsy backstage by a pool table or in a luscious studio, and I was honoured he asked me to sing with him on this album. I’m so proud of my friend.”

GOOSE – “LEAD UP”
“The record is a collection — of songs, of characters, and of different places and times in our lives,” says Goose frontman Rick Mitarotonda says of ‘Lead Up,’ a song he wrote while a teenager but has been given new lyrics and more. “It was a way for me to explore feelings that I didn’t really understand at the time. Sometimes as you get older it becomes valuable reflecting on things from that time in your life, and how pure and unadulterated expressions can be then.“ Goose’s new album Everything Must Go is out April 25.

FAUX REAL – “WALKING AWAY FROM MY DEMONS (WET LEG REMIX)”
While we wait for Wet Leg to announce their second album (this year seems likely), they’ve remixed this track by NYC’s Faux Real who say: “After we opened for Wet Leg on their first US tour in the fall of ‘22, we became fast friends. So when the chance to collaborate came up, it just felt like a no-brainer. Rhian’s deadpan verses play perfectly against the frantic energy of Josh’s nightcore rework, giving the clubby beat this cool confidence—‘I walk around my neighborhood, you’re looking down, I’m looking good’—like finally taking control over the title’s demons. Sometimes, the only way to shake off feelings of inadequacy is to just get up and go, however underprepared. Sow, reap, repeat.“

MIKI BERENYI TRIO (LUSH, MOOSE) – “BIG AM I”
Here’s the second single from Miki Berenyi Trio’s upcoming album Tripla. This one skewers macho attitudes. The former Lush singer/guitarist says: “I’ve witnessed 50+ years of the trends in masculinity and frankly, nothing much changes – as ever, there are good men and there are shit men, and there are boys who can be misguided but easily mature into the best of their sex. But this latest incarnation of ‘winning’ the sex war is a laughably infantile and wilfully regressive new low.”

SACRED PAWS -“FALL FOR YOU”
Sacred Paws, the UK duo of Ray Aggs (Trash Kit, Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers (Golden Grrrls), will release their first album in six years next month and here’s the very appealing and tuneful new single. Aggs directed the video.

MABE FRATTI – “COSA RARA (EN LA PLAYA)” (LUCRECIA DALT COVER)
Lucretia Dalt recently shared new song “cosa rara” that featured former Japan frontman David Sylvian. Now Mabe Fratti has covered that song.

NO WINDOWS – “RETURN”
Scottish duo No Windows have announced The Great Traitor EP which will be out May 9 via Fat Possum. Says the group’s Verity, “When I wrote [the lyrics for previous EP] Point Nemo I was very much a teenager and very hormonal still. I think this EP is coming out of that a little bit. For me, it’s a mediation between being a younger person to being someone in my 20s who’s figuring things out a bit more.”

POPULATION II – “MARIANO (JAMAIS JE NE T’OUBLIERAI)”
Montreal prog-psych band Population II release new album Maintenant Jamais in March and this is a very appealing spacerock jam from it.

MOMMA – “BOTTLE BLONDE”
Momma’s new album Welcome to My Blue Sky arrives in April, and they’ve given us another preview with “Bottle Blonde.” “We wrote this song as a letter to our past selves, when we were 23 and 24, stumbling through an extremely grueling tour that ended up taking a huge toll on our hearts and minds,” vocalists, guitarists, and songwriters Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten say. “We both had bleached hair and were in the midst of making huge decisions that would change our lives and also our perceptions of ourselves. The song started out as kind of an affirmation to our younger selves, that everything would be ok if you just follow your heart, but now looking back on it the lyrics could also be read as us talking to each other.”

GLOIN – “HORSE FIGHTING”
Toronto noise punks Gloin have splattered us with a second track from their upcoming album All of your anger is actually shame (and I bet that makes you angry). They say “Horse Fighting” is about “childhood trauma, shame and public standards.”

CACTUS LEE – “RABBIT”
Singer-songwriter Cactus Lee (aka Austin’s Kevin Dehan) will release his self-titled debut album on March 28 via Western Vinyl. He says this song “sets the tone” for the album. He adds: “It’s a reflection on what it’s like to be a musician; there’s still an old school quality about pulling in, setting up and playing your songs for strangers, then packing and leaving. The character in this story could just as easily be a traveling salesman – someone away from their family doing long drives for work. Someone using the excuse to explore and see the countryside.”

DOOMSDAY – “NEVER KNOWN PEACE”
After contributing a song to the Real Bay Shit comp last week, Oakland crossover thrashers Doomsday have offered up the bone-crushing title track of their debut LP Never Known Peace, due 3/28 via Creator-Destructor Records.

…AND OCEANS – “INERTIAE”
Finnish extreme metal vets …And Oceans have announced a new album, The Regeneration Itinerary, due May 23 via Season of Mist, and here’s the towering lead single “Inertiae.”

CATBITE – “DIE IN DENVER”
Philly ska/power pop band Catbite have announced a new EP, Doom Garden, that was produced, engineered, and mixed by illuminati hotties’ Sarah Tuzdin and features two very cool guest vocalists: Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump and Sweet Pill singer Zayna Youssef. MODEL/ACTRIZ – “CINDERELLA”
NYC industrial noisemakers Model/Actriz announced a new album, Pirouette (vinyl pre-order), and first single “Cinderella” uses the fairytale princess as a metaphor for a coming-out story. Read more about the song and its video here.

DEAFHEAVEN – “HEATHEN”
After releasing one of their heaviest songs in a very long time (or ever) with “Magnolia,” Deafheaven have now shown off another side of their upcoming album Lonely People With Power. Read more about it here and pick up our exclusive “honeyed heat” vinyl variant in the BV shop.

THE BUG CLUB – “HAVE U EVER BEEN 2 WALES”
UK band The Bug Club are back with a new single that will hopefully soon be attached to their second album for Sub Pop. “Have U Ever Been 2 Wales” exudes tuneful energy and ramshackle charm as they sing “Have you ever been to Wales? It’s good!”

CHEEKFACE – “LIVING LO-FI”
LA band Cheekface today have released their fifth album Middle Spoon. Greg Katz continue to navigate our difficult world with insight, humor and big hooks. They’ve also shared a video for “Living Lo-Fi” which features Chris Farren in an “ill-fated attempt to make a music video that gets worse and worse, culminating in a dramatic courtroom finale.”

DEMISE OF LOVE (DANIEL AVERY, WORKING MEN’S CLUB & GHOST CULTURE) – “STRANGE LITTLE CONSEQUENCE”
Demise of Love is a new collaborative project from three very talented artists in UK dance music: Daniel Avery, Working Men’s Club (Sydney Minsky-Sargeant) and Ghost Culture (James Greenwood). They’ve just announced their self-titled debut EP which will be out May 30 via Domino and this is the first single.
