So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JESSICA PRATT – “THE LAST YEAR”
Jessica Pratt’s anticipated new album Here in the Pitch comes out this Friday (5/3), and here’s one more pre-release single. It’s a quiet, bossa nova-tinged folk song and a great example of what makes Jessica’s music so alluring.

UMBRA VITAE – “VELVET BLACK”
Umbra Vitae, one of the multiple bands led by Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon, have shared the second taste of their upcoming sophomore LP Light of Death, and this one finds them going into psychedelic death-doom / gothic metal territory. Bassist Greg Weeks calls it “a departure from the rest of the record,” and it features vocals from Jacob, Greg, and guitarist Sean Martin.

SUZIE TRUE – “LEECHES (PLAY DEAD)”
“This song is about being a life-long people-pleaser and the difficult journey of trying to learn not to be,” Suzie True say of their garagey new single. “Women are taught to fully give themselves to everyone and everything around them, making everyone else happy and comfortable at the expense of our own happiness, comfort, and sense of self. Most of these lyrics are specifically about losing yourself in a relationship, realizing it, and then working towards healing and rediscovering yourself. It’s about the murky area between loving yourself and loving someone else that feels so easy to get lost in.”

ALL UNDER HEAVEN – “RECEIVING CERTAIN ANSWERS” & “ALWAYS”
NJ grungegazers All Under Heaven have announced a new EP, What Lies Ahead of Me, due June 7 via Sunday Drive. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Wyatt Oberholzer (of Chemical Fix and Fixation), and these two singles are great examples of this band’s take on ’90s grunge and shoegaze.

NO WINDOWS – “SMALL FLASHING LIGHT”
Edinburgh duo No Windows’ new EP, Point Nemo, is out this Friday via Fat Possum, and ahead of its release they’ve shared a final single, “Small Flashing Light.” “I wrote it after going through a breakup and realising the beauty of female friendship,” vocalist Verity Slangen says. “When I was with the person this song is about, I had a wonderful feeling of being deeply understood and I wanted to get this into words. As seen in the other songs in Point Nemo, I find it very hard to write happy songs, so this was a big struggle, I think the lyric ‘I know that you fucking hate love songs’ is more of a self-projection. The song makes me feel immense gratitude to this person, and all my friends as a whole- I think it’s a great contrast from the sadder songs in the EP, I write often about feeling like I am in a cycle, this song is breaking that cycle in the EP.”

OUTLANDER – “WANT NO MORE”
UK band Outlander call themselves “slow rock,” and on new single “Want No More,” that means an appealing mix of doom, slowcore, sludge, and shoegaze. (Cloakroom fans, take note.) It’s off their upcoming LP Acts of Harm, due June 28 via Church Road.

KELSEY WALDON – “TRAVELING THE HIGHWAY HOME” (ft. MARGO PRICE)
There are a lot of cool guests on Kelsey Waldon’s upcoming album There’s Always A Song, which features covers of country and bluegrass standards, including Margo Price. Margo’s on the rollicking bluegrass fave “Traveling the Highway Home,” which you can stream now.

HARMONY – “THOT DAUGHTER”
Harmony Tividad, formerly of Girlpool, follows her 2023 debut solo EP Dystopia Girl, with this club-ready new single.

EXTINGUISH – “ONE LESS ENEMY”
Northern California hardcore/death metal band Extinguish have announced a new LP, One Less Enemy, due May 17 via DAZE. The title track is out now, and it’s a raw, hard-hitting track with some ’90s-style production.

GUPPY – “IDK”
Guppy shares some clean, jazzy indie pop with “IDK.”

LA LUZ – “I’LL GO WITH YOU”
“This song is heavily influenced by Yanti Bersaudara, a group of Indonesian sisters who released some of my very favorite music originally released in the mid 60s and early 70s,” says La Luz’s Shana Cleveland of the band’s the new single. “Lyrically, this song is a retelling of a dream I had one night when I had gone to bed with the melody of this song in my head. I had some different words in mind, but this sweet little romance dream took over.” News of the Universe is out May 24 via Sub Pop.

Mdou Moctar’s new album Funeral for Justice is out Friday and here’s one last early taste.

GNOD – SPOT LAND (TASTER)
Manchester psych band Gnod will release Spot Land on May 31 via Rocket Recordings. Instead releasing a single, they’ve shared this six-minute “taster” featuring snippets of all the songs on the album.

ARAB STRAP – “YOU’RE NOT THERE”
Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat says “You’re Not There” is about a man who talks to his dead wife via text messages. “It’s a very common part of the grief process now, and it can help the bereaved come to terms with their loss. I love the idea that our phones can function as a kind of modern Ouija board – the difference of course being that most people aren’t expecting an answer.” New album I’m totally fine with it 👍 don’t give a fuck anymore 👍 is out May 10.

SIOUXSIE SIOUX & IGGY POP – “THE PASSENGER”
Back in 1987, Siouxsie & the Banshees released their version of Iggy Pop‘s “The Passenger” as a single from their covers album Through the Looking Glass. It was an alt-rock and college radio hit in the US and minor chart hit in the UK. Now Siouxsie Sioux has teamed with Iggy for a new version of “The Passenger,” which marks her first new music in nine years. It was recorded for Magnum ice cream’s “Pleasure Express” advertising campaign and is slow and hallucinatory.

RUI GABRIEL – “SUMMERTIME TIGER” FT STEF CHURA
Rui Gabriel of the band Lawn has announced his debut solo album, Compassion, which will be out June 21 via Carpark. He co-produced the album with Nicholas Corson. It’s a little different than the post-punk he made in Lawn. “I wanted to do a solo record to prove to myself that I could sing,” says Gabriel, adding, “Compassion is a record about change. It’s a coming-of-age record but for somebody who’s coming of age into their thirties.”

JON HOPKINS – “RITUAL (EVOCATION)”
Jon Hopkins has announced a new album, RITUAL, which will be out August 30 via Domino. “It is a 41-minute ceremonial piece,” Jon Says, “and was the most joyful and collaborative experience I’ve ever had making an album. It feels like a kinetic counterpart to Music For Psychedelic Therapy.”

RUNAWAY RICOCHET – DIMINISHING RETURNS LP + “OPTIMIST” VIDEO
Saint Paul, Minnesota ska-punk band Runaway Ricochet dropped a new LP on Ska Punk International today, and it’s a ska-punk LP that dives into some slower, cleaner stuff too.
