So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE JESUS LIZARD – “FALLING DOWN”
The Jesus Lizard’s Rack, the post-hardcore/noise rock greats’ first album in 26 years, is out tomorrow and just ahead of that htey’ve shared this animated video for “Falling Down” made by Bill Barminski. “I met Bill in Austin back in the mid ‘80s. He was doing underground comics and zine-type stuff,” guitarist Duane Denison says. “We met through mutual friends in the punk rock scene and recently became reacquainted through social media.”

DUA SALEH – “PUSSY SUICIDE”
Dua Saleh’s first full-length album, I Should Call Them, arrives next month, and they’ve given us another preview with the moody, atmospheric “pussy suicide.”

TANYA DONELLY (BELLY) & BILL JANOVITZ (BUFFALO TOM) – “BETTER THINGS” (THE KINKS COVER)
Tanya Donelly and Bill Janovitz, both vets of the Boston indie scene (Throwing Muses/Belly and Buffalo Tom, respecively) have joined forces to cover The Kinks’ Give the People What They Want track “Better Things.” Originally released in 2015, they’re releasing it wider now ahead of a pair of New England shows they’re playing this weekend.

JAKE BLOUNT & MALI OBOMSAWIN – “LIVE HUMBLE”
Jake Blount and Mali Obomsawin’s new collaborative album symbiont is out later this month, and they’ve shared another single from it, “Live Humble,” which they say “epitomizes the remix methods used in the creation of symbiont. Inspired by a spiritual of the same name collected at the Hampton Institute that includes a spine-tingling necromantic invocation (delivered here with only minor changes), this arrangement also incorporates another version of the song recorded by Bessie Jones and the Georgia Sea Island Singers, a shape note hymn called ‘Occum’ penned by Thomas Commuck (Narragansett/Brothertown) in 1845, and a banjo tune called ‘Koromanti’ collected from enslaved Black Jamaicans in 1687. The lyrics warn the listener to humble themselves before the world’s greater forces, calling up the dead from hell and the seas to bear witness; the music, however, invites us to revel in our smallness.”

MARGO PRICE FT. BILLY STRINGS – “TOO STONED TO CRY”
“It was such a joy to work with Billy on this song,” Margo Price says of her new collaboration with guitarist Billy Strings. “He really nailed the vocals and laid down a beautiful lead. I have wanted to record this song for years now, ever since I heard the writer Andrew Combs sing it. My buddy Beau Bedford and I had been in the studio together working on an Orville Peck track, and I asked him to produce this single for me. He put together a really great band – Beau and I, plus my husband Jeremy Ivey played acoustic, Aksel Coe on drums, Misa Arriaga on Bass, Russ Pahl on pedal steel, Joey McClellan on electric. Once we got Billy to add his guitar and singing, I knew this song was gonna be a special recording.”

SOPHIE THATCHER – “PIVOT & SCRAPE”
Yellowjackets actress Sophie Thatcher releases her debut EP, Pivot & Scrape, next month, and she’s shared the dreamy title track. “For ‘Pivot and Scrap’e I started out with a melodic and buoyant synth melody for the demo,” she says. “The imagery and lyrics for this piece were inspired by dreams I kept having about throwing myself into glass. It felt guttural and like a strong juxtaposition with the dreaminess of the sound. There’s also a relentlessness to the lyrics I feel; the ‘scrape’ meaning you pick up the glass and keep moving.”

PORRIDGE RADIO – “A HOLE IN THE GROUND”
“This is a song about not knowing, being trapped in a haunted fairytale or a horrible nightmare and running and running and predicting horrible futures that come true and self-fulfill,” says Porridge Radio’s Dana Margolin of the latest single from their upcoming album Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me. “It’s a gentle lullaby but it’s also a folktale with a tragic ending. This is a song about knowing what you don’t know yet. Seeing the future by guessing, being right.”

WARHAUS – “WHERE THE NAMES ARE REAL”
Maarten Devoldere is back with a new album as Warhaus titled Karaoke Moon that will be out November 22 via PIAS. First single “Where the Names Are Real” has nice sweep to it.

STRANGER CAT – “WITNESS”
Cat Martino, who has collaborated with Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten, and others, has announced a new album as Stranger Cat, Slow Jam Love Letters to My Body in Pieces, due out November 15 via North Street Records. The first single is synth-pop track “Witness,” about which she says, “I was thinking, show your pain but make it sexy, make it art. It felt like I was in an intimate relationship with my own body, writing to it as my Lover, my Muse.”

MORPHO – “PRISM”
Chicago musician Kristyn Chapman makes music as Morpho and will release her debut EP, Morpho Season, on November 15. “It’s about being in love,” Chapman says of the EP’s moody first single, “feeling totally present in the moment with someone else. Time feels suspended, like you’re living in a dream. I wrote this song in retrospect, trying to capture that expansive feeling after the relationship had ended.”

CUMGIRL8 – “AHHHH!HHHH! (I DON’T WANNA GO)
cumgirl8’s debut album for 4AD, The 8th Cumming, is out in October, and they’ve shared another single from it, electroclash track “ahhhh!hhhh! (i don’t wanna go),” which has a video directed by Leah Hennessey.

CLIPPING. – “RUN IT”
West Coast trio clipping. (Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Snipes, William Hutson) are back with this new single that’s an early taste of “a long-in-the-works Hip-Hop and Cyberpunk project” that will be released by Sub Pop in 2025. Color us intrigued.

DEARY – “THE DRIFT”
UK shoegaze duo deary have announced their second EP, titled Aurelia, which will be out November 1. Singer Dottie Cockram says windswept new song “The Drift” reminds her “of driving down the fondly named ‘The Drift’ in Somerset, blaring Kate Bush and splashing through the flooded lanes.”

MICHAEL KIWANUKA – “LOWDOWN PART I & II”
Michael Kiwanuka will release a new album, Small Changes, on November 15 via Geffen. Once again, he worked with producers Danger Mouse and Inflo on the album, which also features contributions from bassist Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, Beyoncé) and Jimmy Jam of Jam & Lewis. Here’s the two-part new single.
