So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
RIPPED TO SHREDS – “VISIONS OF SIN, MIRROR OF DARKNESS”
San Jose death metallers Ripped To Shreds have shared more pure fury from their upcoming LP Sanshi.

REGIONAL JUSTICE CENTER – “MORAL DEATH SENTENCE”
Regional Justice Center, the hardcore band founded by Ian Shelton (also of Militarie Gun) that’s now co-led by Ian and his brother Max (whose prison sentence was the core inspiration for the band’s subject matter in the first place), have shared a third taste of their upcoming LP Freedom, Sweet Freedom. As you’d probably expect from a song called “Moral Death Sentence,” it’s pretty ferocious.

THE SENSATIONS / HANS GRUBER AND THE DIE HARDS – TOKYO TWO STEP
Two ska-punk bands, Tokyo’s The Sensations and Austin, TX’s Hans Gruber and the Die Hards, have teamed up for a split EP on Ska Punk International Records with one new song and one cover from each band. The Sensations take on The Muffs’ “On And On” and the Die Hards take on Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put On A Spell On You,” and both are great covers that pair perfectly with the rippin’ originals.

DOWNHAUL – “SLEEP IN THE SUNROOM”
Richmond indie band Downhaul’s new album How To Begin arrives later this month (9/20 via Self Aware Records), and the latest taste is “Sleep in the Sunroom.” “This is my best shot at ‘don’t bore us, get to the chorus’ — which has historically been a weak point of mine,” says bandleader Gordon Phillips, before also adding, “We tried to be sparing with overdubs on our new record, but this one was begging for tambourine.”

NILÜFER YANYA – “MADE OUT OF MEMORY”
Nilüfer Yana has unveiled another new single from her anticipated new album My Method Actor, the delicately textured “Made out of Memory.”

SOFT KILL – ROSELAND EP
Soft Kill are a goth/post-punk band who also have a clear interest in plain ol’ punk, as evidenced by their surprise new EP Roseland, which has two new songs and a faithful Dag Nasty cover.

PARTY DOZEN – “COUP DE GRONK”
Aussie sax-n-drums duo Party Dozen release new album Crime in Australia and they’ve shared one more early taste before the whole thing is out. “Coup de Gronk” is funky and skronky (also: gronky?) and comes with a video where the band play debt collectors. “We’re not violent people, so in lieu of actual violence we had to be a little more creative with the enforcing,” they say. “[Directors] Tanya and Jason captured the perfect mix of delinquency and humour, with clear nods to classic Australian gang films and old crime shows with that hazy smear of motion film.”

JOHN DAVIS (OF SUPERDRAG) – “INDIFFERENT STARS”
“This song went through several arrangements on its way to the album, but there were parts of it that I always liked,”s says Superdrag’s John Davis of the latest single from his upcoming solo album JINX. “’I guess it’s time to let it go, the hate that weighed me down, then disappeared.’ I like that line because it refers to a specific thing, this root of bitterness that wrapped around my heart for 20 years. But when I let it go, it disappeared. That was a big day.”

SLEATER-KINNEY – “HERE TODAY”
Sleater-Kinney announced a deluxe edition of their 2024 album Little Rope featuring the addition of live and “Frayed Rope Sessions” tracks, and three new songs. They’ve shared one of those, “Here Today,” which they say is “a song we recorded during the Little Rope sessions. It’s an earnest song about our brief time here on earth, and where to find meaning in it.”

EZRA COLLECTIVE -“STREETS IS CALLING”
2023 Mercury Music Prize will release new album Dance, No One’s Watching at the end of September and here’s a new song from it. “‘Streets Is Calling’ is about the feeling when people call you up and message you and say, yo, there’s this party happening tonight and that’s all you need,” the band say. “The Streets have called. We’re gonna go straight to this dance floor to make it our own.”

ONEDA – “THE WESTERN WAY”
Manchester rapper OneDa will release her debut album Formula OneDa in October and new single “The Western Way” adds a bit of reggae to the mix. Nice tune.

FREAK HEAT WAVES & NEW ORTHODOX – “BOTTOMED OUT”
Canadian sample/synth duo Freak Heat Waves have collaborated on this new single with New Orthodox, aka Sunset Rubdown’s Nicholas Merz. Electro country? Kinda.

LEON BRIDGES – “LAREDO”
“This track is a nightlife vibe,” Leon Bridges says of “Lardeo,” the latest single from his new album Leon. “A down-tempo, rocksteady homage to those moments when life slows down and all that matters is being in the now. I’m throwin’ it back to where it began, embracing my roots and telling stories that are as real as the places I call home. ‘Laredo’ is more than just a song; it’s a journey back to the roots, a return to what truly matters. After years of searching for inspiration across the globe, I found myself drawn back to the border town memories that shaped me.”

THE INNOCENCE MISSION – “THIS THREAD IS A GREEN LIGHT”
The Innocence Mission have announced their 13th album, Midwinter Swimmers, which will be out November 29 via Therese / Bella Union. It’s their first since 2020’s great See You Tomorrow. “One of the things about recording it was, how to find this feeling inside the sound, and how to find the half-remembered beauty of sing-alongs of our 1970’s childhood,” says Karen Peris. “There’s a search in recording that goes on being elusive, in a good way.”

XENO & OAKLANDER – “VIA NEGATIVA (IN THE DOORWAY LIGHT)”
Longrunning minimal wave duo Xeno & Oaklander have announced Via Negativa (in the doorway light), their first album in three years, which will be out November 15 via Dais. The album was named for and inspired by “the study of what not to do, a negative image of a positive, the other side, the other: ‘Via Negativa (in the doorway light).’” This is the title track.

GOD BULLIES – “I AM MIGHTY”
Noise rock vets God Bullies are gearing up to release their first album in 30 years, and you can read about new single “I Am Mighty” here.
