So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
TOM ROWLANDS (THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS) – “WE ARE NOTHING” & “ALL NIGHT”
The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands has just released this new 12″ via Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label featuring two tracks that are danceable but pretty far away from his day job’s block-rockin’ beats, though they have featured in ChemBros DJ sets.

BLONDSHELL – “DIET PEPSI” (ADDISON RAE COVER)
Following the release of her new album If You Asked for a Picture, Blondshell covered Addison Rae’s “Diet Pepsi” for Sirius XMU. “I love Addison’s music and this is my fave song of hers,” Sabrina Teitelbaum says. “It was on repeat for me when it came out so when we went in to do a Sirius XMU session it was between this and ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go’ by Bob Dylan. Glad we went with this one.”

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN – “SUNDAY LOVE”
Here’s another song from Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming Tracks II: The Lost Albums, this one is from Twilight Hours which features “romantic, lost-in-the-city songs” that are his homage to pop standards.

LAURA JANE GRACE – “WEARING BLACK”
“My pride’s a riot, it’s not a parade,” Laura Jane Grace sings on the new single from Adventure Club, her new album from Laura Jane Grace in The Trauma Tropes.

PAUL WELLER – “I STARTED A JOKE” (BEE GEES COVER)
Paul Weller’s upcoming album Find El Dorado that features his interpretations of some of his all-time favorite songs. In this case: the Bee Gees’ pre-disco mopey baroque classic “I Started a Joke.”

MOLLY TUTTLE – “THAT’S GONNA LEAVE A MARK”
Molly Tuttle’s new album So Long Little Miss Sunshine arrives in August, and she’s given us another preview with “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark.” BV contributor Ebru Yildiz directed the accompanying video, and Molly says, “I loved working with Ebru Yildiz on my album cover photoshoot, which features me playing various versions of myself, or characters. I was excited when she suggested we make a music video together that explores the heartbreaker character portrayed in ‘That’s Gonna Leave A Mark.’ I was even more ecstatic when she said she wanted to film at the historic Hotel Chelsea in New York City. It was an unforgettable experience to make this video and feel the spirits of the legendary artists and songs that have echoed in the rooms and hallways of the hotel.”

DEBBY FRIDAY – “LIPSYNC”
Here’s the new single from Debby Friday’s Polaris Prize-winning debut album. The Starrr Of The Queen Of Life is out August 1.

MIDWIFE & MATT JENCIK – “RICKETY RIDE”
Midwife and Matt Jencik’s collaborative album Never Die is out next month, and they’ve shared another single, “Rickety Ride.” Jencik says it’s about “a random unplanned evening I had with someone many years ago. Leaving work one night I bumped into a barista from the coffee shop across the street. She had also just finished working and was sitting alone at a table on the sidewalk drinking a bottle of wine. We started talking and she invited me over to her place to hang out. The next thing we knew we were at a neighborhood carnival then proceeded to haunt the streets of Pittsburgh for hours like proper nighthawks. It seemed like maybe the beginning of something but then it wasn’t. Over the following years I realized it was one of the best, most pure nights of my life. Total freedom without needing to tell anyone where I was or what I was doing. No mobile phone to track my every move. Freedom like that is so rare now unless you just go off the grid.”

YTTLING JAZZ (PETER BJORN AND JOHN) — “ILLEGAL HIT”
Peter Bjorn and John’s Bjorn Yttling has reactivated his other group, Yttling Jazz, after after a very long time for new album Illegal Hit which will be out September 26 via YEAR0001. “One could easily call Illegal Hit the difficult second album,” Bjorn notes. “Not because it’s very difficult to listen to, but it’s been 20 years since the first album.” He’s just released the album’s groovy title track. “The main riff is sort of floating around in space like some debris that you sometimes can see and sometimes not,” Bjorn says. “Starts with a cool delay drenched drumbeat and then an even cooler bass solo by Dan Berglund. An illegal hit is still a hit, whether it’s in hockey, tennis or music.”

GOOGLY EYES, JOY OLADOKUN & ALLISON PONTHIER – “JESUS AND JOHN WAYNE”
All Things Go is releasing a compilation to benefit The Ally Coalition, and the first track is “Jesus and John Wayne,” a collaboration between googly eyes, Joy Oladokun, and Allison Ponthier.

RESAVOIR AND MATT GOLD – “DIVERSEY BEACH” FT MEI SEMONES
Resavoir and Matt Gold have shared their collab with NYC’s very talented Mei Semones, “Diversey Beach.” “We wrote ‘Diversey Beach’ on the coldest day of the year watching a blizzard coming down out of the window, where the sounds of the cars driving by sounded like waves crashing on a beach,” says Resavoir’s Will Miller. “I sent it to Mei Semones, who I’ve been a fan of for a long time. She’s absolutely incredible and it’s amazing what she did with it.” The song is on their album Horizon.

BRUTUS VIII – “DO IT FOR THE MONEY”
“Do It For the Money is a deconstruction of the typical EBM production tropes,” says Brutus VIII (aka Jackson Katz). “Hayden Ticehurst(co-producer and mixer) and I were also inspired by Baile Funk from Brazil. The slammed mixes in particular. The lyrics touch on a feeling of shame that runs throughout our lives.”

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME – “THINGS WE TELL OURSELVES IN THE DARK”

THE SUICIDE MACHINES – “NEVER GO QUIETLY”
Detroit ska-punk vets The Suicide Machines are on tour now with Less Than Jake and Fishbone and they just dropped this new song that singer Jay Navarro says is “about confronting my mental health and trauma from my childhood.” Read more about it here.
