So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
KYLIE V – WISH I WAS IN BED
Vancouver folk artist Kylie V has signed to Royal Mountain for new album Crash Test Plane which will be out November 15. “”Wish I Was In Bed” is a little bit of a love song to my friends and a little bit of a reminder to let myself have fun,” Kylie says of the album’s first single. “I wrote this song in probably an hour or less while getting ready to go out; it all just kind of fell out onto a page in one piece. I was trying not to ruin a good time for myself with my own thoughts. Josh (Eastman) and I had a lot of fun putting this one together in the studio, but now that I think about it, it’s more painfully honest than fun lyrically, isn’t it…”

KELLY LEE OWENS – “HIGHER”
Kelly Lee Owens will release new album Dreamstate in October and she’s just shared the third single from it. “As we move through life, we understand more so that there will always be challenges, but perhaps each time we experience one, that we gain more of an overview, a new perspective,” she says of “Higher.” “This track is there to uplift, as it reaches quietly for a sense of a euphoric relief.

ADA LEA – “COME ON, BABY! BE A GOOD GIRL FOR THE CAMERA”
Ada Lea announced a new EP, notes, due out on October 4 via Saddle Creek. First single “come on, baby! be a good girl for the camera” was written at the same time as her 2021 album one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden, and she says, “I wrote this song while on a very challenging tour that took everything out of me. Over the years, I’ve developed a suspicion that your skin must be made of macho steel to ‘make it’ in the industry—you’ve gotta be able to suck it up, put a nice smile on your face, and do a little dance with a twinkle in your eye. The chorus runs with that belief, in a cheeky, noncommittal and playful way.”

SCOUT GILLETT – “MISTAKEN”
Scout Gillet just released her new EP, Imagination, MO and with it comes a video for the catchy “Mistaken.” “Mistaken was inspired by the beauty and complexities that can form within a relationship,” she says. “I wanted to write a song about all of the feelings and emotions one feels throughout the entirety of a relationship. I strived to capture the euphoria, lightness and giddiness one feels in the beginning of a relationship but also the trepidation and fear of ruining it or as I say in the song ‘Over Driving’ it.”

SLOWDIVE – “KISSES” (DANIEL AVERY & GROUPER REMIXES)
Slowdive have given “Kisses,” the lead single from last year’s excellent Everything is Alive, to Daniel Avery and Grouper to remix. Avery, who has always liked a little shoegaze in his techno, takes “Kisses” into drum and bass / jungle territory, while Grouper strips out all the rhythm and sends the song off into the ether.

THE REDS, PINKS & PURPLES – “THE WORLD DOESN’T NEED ANOTHER BAND”
Glenn Donaldson is back with a new collection of strum-and-glum earworms and this is the album’s title track.

THE GREEN CHILD (TOTAL CONTROL/GRASS WIDOW) – “WOW FACTOR”
The Green Child, the group formed by Total Control’s Mikey Young and onetime Grass Widow guitarist/singer Raven Mahon, will release Look Familiar on November 15. Here’s the first single.

Lush cofounder Emma Anderson has announced new album Spiralée: Pearlies Rearranged, which will be out October 18 via Sonic Cathedral. It’s a full rework of her 2023 album Pearlies, featuring Julia Holter, LoneLady, The Orielles, deary, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, MEMORIALS (Electrelane/Wire), Ladytron’s Daniel Hunt, Concretism, Masal, and Witching Time.
