So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
GWENNO – “UTOPIA” (CORNELIUS REMIX)
The title track to Gwenno’s new album Utopia has been remixed by Japanese art rock wunderkind Cornelius. He says: “A few months ago Gwenno contacted me on social media asking if I’d do a remix. I didn’t know her music at the time, but once I listened I realized it was exactly my taste: psychedelic in feel, with production that hints at Krautrock and at Jean-Claude Vannier – Serge Gainsbourg’s arranger. I was also drawn to her natural, clear voice and her Welsh background. I was genuinely happy that an artist making music like that took an interest in what I’m doing all the way over here in Japan, so I gladly accepted. For my version of ‘Utopia’ I aimed for an elegant sound that updates the 1950s exotica of Esquivel and Martin Denny for today. I hope you enjoy it.”

JAY SOM – “PAST LIVES” (FT. HAYLEY WILLIAMS)
Jay Som’s anticipated first album in six years, Belong, is out this Friday, and ahead of its release she’s share “Past Lives,” which features Paramore’s Hayley Williams. “It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of Float,, Melina Duterte says. “I still can’t believe it happened. She’s one of the kindest artists out there and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. We’re all so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”

PREOCCUPATIONS – “MUR” & “PONR”
Preoccupations call this release a “double B side” featuring two songs from the sessions of this year’s Ill at Ease that will pressed as a 7″ single.

STELLA DONNELLY – “YEAR OF TROUBLE”
Stella Donnelly’s new album Love and Fortune arrives next month, and she’s given us another preview with “Year of Trouble,” a bare-bones piano ballad.

THE BELAIR LIP BOMBS – “BACK OF MY HAND”
Australian band The Belair Lip Bombs release their Third Man debut, Again, on October 31 and here’s another early taste. “Writing the lyrics was an up-and-down process,” the band’s Maisie Everett says. “I wrote the second verse first, the night I got home from the rehearsal where we wrote the song. I got a bit stoned and laid in bed with a notepad and a pen and the lyrics and the melody kinda just poured out of me, which pretty much never happens, so I guess it was a fluke.”

H. PRUZ – “KRISTA”
h. pruz’s new album Red sky at morning is out next month, and they’ve given us another preview with “Krista,” which they say is “about disturbances in perception, illusions. It was an exploration in following some of those disturbances, in my relationships or exterior observations, to completion.”

HILARY WOODS – “TAPER”
“‘Taper’ is a song that honours a presence to one that is absent,” Hilary Woods says of the latest eerie wonder from upcoming album CRIÚ. “A love song that only a children’s choir could express fully, it was a real joy to work with the Hangleton Brass Band on this one.”

THE MOUNTAIN GOATS – “COLD AT NIGHT” & “ROCKS IN MY POCKETS”

RAGANA & DROWSE – “ASH SOUVENIR”
Ragana and Drowse’s new collaborative album Ash Souvenir is out next month, and they’ve shared the title track. “‘Ash Souvenir’ is a song dedicated to my mom,” Ragana’s Maria Stocke says. “I got to play her this song before she died and she really liked it. At the end she is all I can think about when I say ‘there is nothing to lose’ over and over until it’s a meditation. The words poured through me from my mom somehow. I think it means we don’t take anything with us when we die, we don’t have to worry about things, just people and mountains.”

SUSANNAH JOFFE & BABY NOVA – “FUNERAL” (PHOEBE BRIDGERS COVER)
The latest track from All Things Go’s 10 Years charity compilation, which benefits The Ally Coalition, is Susannah Joffe and Baby Nova’s twangy take on Phoebe Bridgers’ “Funeral.”
