So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
WAND – “GOLDFISH”
Wand have announced a new 12″ featuring previously digital only single “Help Desk,” previously unreleased song “Goldfish” from the Vertigo sessions, plus remixes by Beat Detectives, Dean Spunt and Dead Rider. Hear “Goldfish” now.

VERBÖTEN (JASON NARDUCY) – “NO MORE INDECISION”
Verböten, Jason Narducy’s early-’80s preteen punk band, are back together and will play their first show in 40 years at Riot Fest and release their first-ever album next month. Here’s the new single from it. “I wrote ‘No More Indecision’ on January 1st of this year,” says Narducy. “The music sounded defiant and, because it was the first day of the year, I was thinking about what’s ahead. The lyrics came quickly when I thought about the total denial of climate change by conservatives and the infuriatingly slow pace of meaningful legislation by democrats. The song is us screaming for real change.”

BAD ASTRONAUT – “GREY SUITS” (UNTETHERED VERSION)
Lagwagon singer Joey Cape’s more indie-leaning band Bad Astronaut have announced Untethered, an album that features piano/cello/vocal re-imaginings of some of the band’s classic songs. It comes out November 8 via Fat Wreck Chords, and the first song released is this gorgeous version of “Grey Suits.”

FOUSHEÉ – “FEEL LIKE HOME”
Fousheé’s new album Pointy Heights comes out this Friday (9/13), and she’s shared a final new single from it ahead of its release, the smooth “feel like home.”

A.A. WILLIAMS – “SPLINTER”
Gothy singer/songwriter A.A. Williams returns with an alluring new single.

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX – “GOODNIGHT, EUROPE (PT2)”
UK dark rock band Crippled Black Phoenix have announced a double album that includes a covers album called Horrific Honorifics Number Two (2) and an album with reworked versions of past CBP songs called The Wolf Changes Its Fut But Not Its Nature. It arrives November 29 via Season of Mist, and the first single is “Goodnight, Europe (Pt2),” an extended, nearly-nine-minute reworking of “Goodnight, Europe.”

FRANKIE COSMOS & GOOD MORNING – “TAKE A PICTURE”
New Margo Guryan tribute compilation Like Someone I Know: A Celebration of Margo Guryan is out in November, and Frankie Cosmos and Good Morning have shared their collaborative contribution to it, a gentle rendition of “Take a Picture.” “I first heard Margo Guryan on a playlist by Everyday Oil (yes, a playlist by a face oil) a few days before she passed away,” Greta Kline says. “I ended up getting into ‘Take A Picture’ and ‘27 Demos’ during the late fall of 2021 while we were mixing Inner World Peace. I specifically remember Alex driving us through Brooklyn on a rainy November evening to Nate and Katie’s house (where they were finishing mixing), and we were talking about how great ‘Take A Picture’ sounded. Maybe not a specific mixing reference, but it was definitely in the air while we were working. I remember feeling like I was the last person to learn about Margo Guryan. I’d like to think that every time someone uncovers Margo Guryan, they start to piece together how many of their friends already know and love her songs. Hopefully, more people will learn about her music and listen to her records, and I’m happy to be part of that with this compilation!”

SONGS: OHIA – “CABGWAYLINGO” (LIVE IN 2000)
Live: Vanquishers, a live album from the late Jason Molina’s Songs: Ohia project that was recorded on October 9, 2000 in the Netherlands, got a limited vinyl release in 2022, and now it’s getting a digital release on October 16 via Secretly Canadian. The first track to stream is this powerful rendition of “Cabwaylingo.”

EARTHBURNER – “BROKEN HEAD”
Earthburner (Broken Hope, Sanguisugabogg, Napalm Death, etc) have shared a brutal new track from their long-awaited, first-ever full-length album, Permanent Down.

FRANZ FERDINAND – “AUDACIOUS”
“Making this record was one of the most life-affirming experiences I’ve had, but it’s called The Human Fear,” says frontman Alex Kapranos, announcing his band’s new album. “Fear reminds you that you’re alive. I think we all are addicted in some way to the buzz it can give us. How we respond to it shows how we are human. So here’s a bunch of songs searching for the thrill of being human via fears. Not that you’d necessarily notice on first listen.”

WARMDUSCHER – “PURE AT HEART” FT JANET PLANET
Warmduscher have a new album on the way and just released new single “Pure at Heart” which features Confidence Man‘s Janet Planet. Frontman Clams Baker says it’s “A nod to being one of the few left on the floor when the lights come on and the club closes, and to the adventures to come with the stranger you just met there.”
