So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SUUNS – “DOREEN”
“The Doreen in question,” says SUUNS’ Ben Shemie, “doesn’t per se symbolize a specific person, but the mysteries that inspire you to move forward, yet are never fully attained. It’s a futile quest, as thoughts, feelings, sounds, and images will eternally slip through your fingers, unbound from action or creation.” SUUNS’ new album The Breaks is out September 6.

PATRICK HIGGINS (ZS) – “CATALYST” FT. BOBBY PREVITE
Zs’ Patrick Higgins will release double album Versus on July 12 via Nicolas Jaar’s Other People Records. Atmospheric song “Catalyst” features experimental jazz drummer Bobby Previte.

49 WINCHESTER – “TULSA”
“This song is a rock & roll’er with an interesting backstory. I wrote it on a frigid night in 2022, leaving a show at the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa,” says 49 Winchester’s Isaac Gibson of this song which references both Don Williams and Kenny Rogers. “It was in the middle of a blizzard on the way to a run of shows through Texas. The interstate was covered in snow; we jack-knifed the van and trailer sideways on the road and it was just a sketchy situation altogether. My anxiety wasn’t helped by the fact that Oklahoma had recently legalized a plant we’ve been known to be fond of, and that’s ultimately where the song comes from. It’s one of those snapshots of a moment in time in my life, where I just put pen to paper to ease my mind.” 49 Winchester’s new album Leavin’ This Holler is out August 2.

42 DUGG – “N.P.O.” (ft. SEXYY RED)
Detroit rapper 42 Dugg is dropping his new album 4EVA US NEVA THEM on July 4, and its new single “N.P.O.” is an instantly-satisfying banger that links him up with one of the genre’s fastest-rising stars, Sexyy Red.

EVERYONE ASKED ABOUT YOU – “A VIGIL”
Emo veterans Everyone Asked About You have announced their first EP in 25 years, Never Leave, due August 5 via Numero Group. Its new single is the queer protest anthem “A Vigil,” inspired by the attack and death of non-binary teenager Nex Benedict.

OTAY:ONII – “THEY SAID THAT’S FREEDOM AND I LAUGHED”
Art pop musician otay:onii (of Elizabeth Colour Wheel) has announced a new solo album, True Faith Ain’t Blind, and the first single is the freeform, piano-fueled “They Said That’s FREEDOM And I Laughed.”

NO MOTIV – “PIECES”
Oxnard, CA post-hardcore vets No Motiv have signed to Wiretap Records and released their first new song in 13 years, “Pieces.” Read about it here.

HUMAN IMPACT (UNSANE) – “DESTROY TO REBUILD”
Unsane/Cop Shoot Cop offshoot Human Impact have announced a new album with a new lineup (including members of Daughters and Made Out of Babies), and they released lead single “Destroy to Rebuild.” Read more here.

WINNETKA BOWLING LEAGUE – “THIS IS LIFE” FT. MEDIUM BUILD & DAWES
Following the release of their debut album Sha La La last month, Winnetka Bowling League have teamed up with Medium Build and Dawes for a new single, “This Is Life.” “There was this song going kind of viral on TikTok called ‘Rectangular’ and it was at the same time I started seeing videos of Medium Build / Nick in his signature shorts / dangling earring / swooning the internet with his passionate and relatable observations on the weird life experience,” WBL’s Matthew Koma says. “I was poking a little fun when I posted a Tiktok dressed as Nick, performing ‘Rectangular’, and we became fast internet buddies. On his next trip to LA we hung out at my studio and he noticed the Dawes poster on my wall….we bonded over our extreme fandom of Dawes and Taylor’s songwriting. I sent Taylor some of Medium Build’s music and he loved it, weeks later covering his song ‘In My Room’ at a show where Nick was in attendance. I had started a little nugget of a first verse with ‘This Is Life’ and sent it to our group chat seeing if they’d be down to complete the love circle with a musical gesture and, lucky for me, they were down. Taylor is our hero and I can’t (but will) speak for Nick when I say this is one of the coolest moments of our lives to be on a song with him.”

KATE BOLLINGER – “TO YOUR OWN DEVICES”
Kate Bollinger will release her debut album, Songs From A Thousand Frames of Mind, in September, and she’s just shared the album’s second single. “To Your Own Devices” is gorgeous and gentle sunshine folk pop with a light sprinkling of flowery psychedelia.

EDDIE VEDDER – “SAVE IT FOR LATER” (THE ENGLISH BEAT COVER)
The Bear‘s third season just dropped and on its soundtrack is this cover of English Beat classic “Save it For Later” by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder than plays in the opening of the second episode.
