So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
MARTA – “WAY UP IN” FT MARCELA RYBSKA (PROD BY TRICKY)
Marta Złakowska, whose voice has graced the last few Tricky albums, will release solo album Out of The Way on October 3. That album was produced by Tricky as well.

SOULWAX – “GIMME A REASON” / “MEANWHILE ON THE CONTINENT”
Soulwax’s new album All Systems are Lying is out next month and they’ve just released two more songs from it: the bouncy “Gimme a Reason” and the drum-forward “Meanwhile on the Continent.”

LAEL NEALE – “SOME BRIGHT MORNING”
Lael Neale shared an outtake from her new album Altogether Stranger. About the video for “Some Bright Morning,” she says, “My dad is a farmer, and as I watch him working, day in and day out, I realize being an artist is very similar. Both are tending to work that is never done, in service of a broader life-long vision. There’s always more to do, new approaches to take, and leaps to make in the midst of mundane everyday tasks. You have to be motivated by a belief in what you are doing without attachment to the results. There’s a quiet satisfaction in the daily steps.”

ELDER – “LIMINALITY” / “DREAM STATE RETURN”
The consistently great psych/prog/doom band Elder are back with two new songs that flow right into each other, making for what’s basically one epic 19-minute song, “Liminality” and “Dream State Return.”

BITCHIN BAJAS – “SKYLARKING”
Chicago synth group Bitchin Bajas release Inland See this week and here’s one final preview, the mellow, saxy “Skylarking.”

NEKO CASE – “RUSTY MOUNTAIN”
Neko Case’s first album since 2018, Neon Grey Midnight Green, arrives this Friday, and she’s given us a final preview with the lush “Rusty Mountain.”

MIKI BERENYI TRIO – “DOLDRUM DAYS”
The Miki Berenyi Trio, the current group led by Lush‘s Miki Berenyi and also featuring her partner KJ “Moose” McKillop (of fellow shoegaze OGs Moose) and Oliver Cherer, will be on tour in North America in October with Raincoats‘ Gina Birch along for the ride and to remind people of that they’ve released this new single.

OLIVIA BARTON – “MY FIRST HOUSE”
“Earlier this year I went back to my childhood home for the first time since I was 7, and asked the current owners if I could come inside and look around,” Olivia Barton says of the hushed latest single off her new album For Myself and For You. “I wrote ‘My First House’ about my experience of being there, and I made a music video for it using childhood footage I’d never seen before. This song has become a soft place for me to leave all the memories.”

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE READING ROOM (GREET DEATH, BRISTLETONGUE) – “BLOODHOUND”
Greet Death co-leader Harper Boyhtari and Bristletongue leader L Morgan have a new band called Christian Science Reading Room, and their first-released song is “Bloodhound.” Read more about it here.

GUMM – “NEW FROM THE PAIN”
Chattanooga post-hardcore/melodic hardcore band Gumm have announced their sophomore album, Beneath the Wheel, and the lead single is the catchy, gritty “New From the Pain.” Read more here.
