Wounded Touch and fallfiftyfeet are two of the best newer metalcore/mathcore bands around, so it’s exciting news that they’re teaming up for a split EP, Traumatic Entanglement, due August 23 via Smartpunk. It features two new songs from each band, including a fallfityfeet song called “You Think You’re (John Fucking Denver)” (nice), and artwork created by former Wormrot vocalist Arif. “We’d been getting anxious in between releases and started writing to pass time and try stuff out, especially with some new pedals and experimental tunings,” say Wounded Touch. “So we wrote a few tracks and took our friend Matt Marquez from Norma Jean up on an offer to record us at his new studio and we’d been talking for awhile with FallFiftyFeet about wanting to do something together, so we decided to do a split with them since they also had two tracks they’d been sitting on.”
We’re premiering one of the two Wounded Touch songs and its video, “Submitted For (Dis)Approval,” which is a great example of this band’s ability to breathe new life into late ’90s/early 2000s-style metalcore and mathcore. “’Submitted For (Dis)Approval’ shifted from an intro riff into a whole song right before we played the Furnace Fest ‘23 kickoff show while putting new material together for the set,” the band tells us. “Thematically, it’s about the artist’s relationship to the audience and being willing to do anything for their applause and approval, including self-harm and death. We just tried to not think too hard and have fun jamming something out after deciding we wanted to have a ‘go!’ mosh call in something.” Check out the song and its video below.
