Florida’s Weltesser are releasing their new album Crestfallen on February 10 via Prosthetic (pre-order). Ahead of the album, we’re premiering the video for its song “Rats,” which is a dose of seriously brutal sludge, with harsh, reverbed-out screams that make it more gruesome than your average sludge album. Here’s what band member Nate Peterson tells us about the song:
“Rats” is one of the key pieces in starting this band. One of the more straightforward songs, has more feeling than some others for me. This album is centered around the harder times and the emotions that came with them. Rats is about growing up in a punk scene and seeing some of my friends, the people I looked up to, do shitty things and gossip about other people. It really spiraled, which affected the DIY music scene. Watching my friends and the music scene fall apart changed me as a person. We all were on the same page when it was being written, and it still holds value to us so we wanted to rerecord it for the LP.
