TWIABP release cover of Ceremony’s “Kersed”

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die recently released their proggy, six-minute new single “Auguries Of Guilt,” and now they’ve followed by releasing a recorded cover of Ceremony‘s 2006 hardcore classic “Kersed,” which the band have performed live a handful of times since first doing it at The Fest in 2022. Their guitarist Anthony Gesa takes lead vocals when they do this one, and it’s a faithful rendition that sounds nothing like the original music TWIABP releases these days. Check it out below.

TWIABP played it during their recent tour with The Ocean and tweeted “let’s see if the post metal crowd gets it at all” beforehand, but I bet it will go over really well if and when they play it at Outbreak Fest this weekend (which they seem to be suggesting they will) or if they decide to do it again when they open for The Dillinger Escape Plan in Chicago in August. And if it seems out of character compared to TWIABP’s current material, it’s worth remembering that really nothing is out of character for TWIABP–who have also covered (“covered”) everything from blink-182 to John Cage–but also that they came up playing shows with hardcore/heavy bands like Full of Hell and Code Orange (back when they were called Code Orange Kids), and also released a split that had both Code Orange Kids and Self Defense Family on it (along with Tigers Jaw).

We started playing this song live at some shows in the past couple years. Even though we’re known for having longer more maximalist songs, it’s fun to just do something completely different and unexpected (especially during our live set). It felt fitting to finally do a studio version of it before we both play Outbreak Fest this weekend. If you’ve been around punk/hardcore the you’ll know this song is classic. If you haven’t ever listened to Ceremony (which is something I was surprised to hear from some people at our shows) then you should check out their great discography.

The artwork for the single is a painting done by Marcio Blasphemator. He also did the cover for our recent single “Auguries of Guilt.” This is based on the original cover of Violence Violence by Ceremony but in his unique style + fitting with the other single art.
