The Sound of Animals Fighting, the experimental post-hardcore supergroup featuring Anthony Green, members of RX Bandits and more, returned with Apeshit, their first EP in 14 years, in 2022, and now they’ve announced a new full length album. The Maiden is their first LP since 2008’s The Ocean and The Sun, and it’s due out September 12 via Born Losers. See the cover art and tracklist below.
The first single is “Lady of the Cosmos.” The band say it “marks the emotional and narrative pivot point of The Maiden—a mythic journey through revolution, transcendence, and memory. At the heart of this track lies the maiden, the album’s central figure, who meets her prophesied fate at the blade of the guillotine. As her physical form is severed, her spirit ascends, untethered, spiraling into the cosmos. It is here—at the edge of death and eternity—that Side A ends. The second half of the album begins where she reawakens: no longer flesh, but memory itself, echoing through the celestial collective that binds all things. We wanted to pinpoint the juxtaposition of that which is haunting, beautiful, and brutally serene. ‘Lady of the Cosmos’ is the hinge between mortality and myth.”
The Sound of Animals Fighting will be on tour this fall with This Will Destroy You and The Casket Lottery, plus Hard Chiller and Soft Blue Shimmer each joining for select shows.
