SUMAC, the post-metal trio of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, etc), Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes), and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists, ex-The Armed), played some new music at their Boston & NYC shows this past February, and now they’ve announced a new album, The Healer, due June 21 via Thrill Jockey. Produced by Kowloon Walled City’s Scott Evans, it features four songs in 76 minutes, and the nearly-13-minute lead single “Yellow Dawn” is out now. With organ by Faith Coloccia, the song goes from ethereal psychedelia to ten-ton sludge to a noise rock freakout, and it probably goes without saying that this is pretty towering, intense stuff.
