OLTH have been building a reputation as one of NYC’s best newer screamo bands, thanks in part to their wild live show (I caught them with Liturgy at TV Eye last year and it was batshit), and their recordings are just getting better and better too. They’re following their 2023 debut LP every day is sOmeOne’s speciaL day with a new two-song single, “fire dOve / xO,” and these are two of their strongest, most musically-varied songs yet. They’ve got their harsh, screeching, caustic screamo down pat, and they also branch off into heavy/beautiful post-metal territory on the climactic “fire dOve” and tread some Slint-like waters on “xO.”
“We developed these two songs over the last couple years, playing lots of shows and trying new ideas at each one,” the band says. “At this point, both songs are staples of our live sets, so we’re really stoked to get them out in this more finalized form. Both songs feature some new elements and sounds for us, with ‘xO’ being our first song to include clean vocals. As always, big thanks to Matt Labozza, Kristian Pitaccio, and Brad Boatright for helping us record, mix, and master the songs.”
