Chicago screamo band Indisposed first caught my ear when they appeared on a great 2020 split with Sonagi, Obroa-Skai, and Coma Regalia, and now they’re putting out their own first proper release since then. It’s called Steadfast, and it comes out digitally tomorrow (7/26) with vinyl arriving on August 9 (pre-order), but you can hear it early because a full stream premieres in this post.
Steadfast opens with the band’s 2022 single “Stridulate,” and then makes its way through five more powerful, substantial offerings of late ’90s/early 2000s-style screamo. The album is dedicated to uplifting fellow survivors and lashing out against abusers and enablers, and Nina Palumbo’s throat-shredding screams and fired-up spoken word passages are as sincere and devastating as can be. The album is about toxic power dynamics, the meaning of allyship, psychological fallout from abuse, and to educate people on tactics deployed by abusers & predators ( ex: DARVO DANCE). It is for those that have been silenced, blamed, and re-victimized by coming forward or not feeling able to. It is about perseverance, survival in every sense of the word – pushing forward in life despite what has happened to you. We hope that fellow survivors feel empowered and heard. Most importantly, the album is a message to hold strong and to speak loudly, no matter the consequences or social persecution executed by predators and their enablers.
