A few months before Foundation played their first reunion show, vocalist Thomas Pearson had the following to say on the HardLore podcast…
Okay, so, when I was getting into hardcore, I thought, first of all, that line, when I was getting into it, you know, it needs to be said. Well, the bands that resonated the most with me, other than like the Rev Catalog, were kind of like the really kind of dingy DIY, kind of like hard bands, but with like really, you know, like hippie politics, like Frail and Reversal of Man, Trial, 108, Chokehold, stuff like that. The band that would, you would open up their lyric books and they would have like dissertations before the record, like this is what this record’s about.
And that stuff really resonated with me where I was like, oh, this band’s like talking about something. And even if it was like something I didn’t really like understand or agree with initially, like I remember like Indecision was my pathway into like atheism. And I remember being like kind of scared by that, like what do you mean?
That brings us to the aforementioned straight-edge hardcore/screamo band Frail, who put out some Numero Group reissues last year and who are gearing up for some reunion shows this year. They’re playing West Coast shows at Chain Reaction, 924 Gilman St, and Zebulon LA in February, followed by Philly’s First Unitarian Church on 2/28 and Brooklyn’s Meadows on 3/2. The Philly and NYC shows are also with another ’90s-era band, indie/post-rock vets Windsor for the Derby, and Brooklyn also has screamo staples The Saddest Landscape. Tickets to the Philly show are sold out, but tickets are still available for the Brooklyn show.
