After Screaming Females suddenly broke up, Marissa Paternoster turned her attention to her long-running solo project Noun, which is now officially a duo with drummer/multi-instrumentalist Phillip Price of Kayo Dot and Moor Jewelry. Noun’s first release with their new duo lineup (and Marissa’s first new music since Screaming Females) is the two-song single “WANTED/CONSUMED,” and it’s some of the heaviest music Marissa has ever released. It’s not totally out of left field or anything–Screaming Females have toured with metal bands, Philip also has a metal background, and Marissa’s shredding and riffage has flirted with metal plenty of times, but the full-blown sludge (and little bits of screaming) fueling “WANTED” and “CONSUMED” feels like new territory. They’re also both great songs, and you can listen to them and watch the “WANTED” video below.
Noun also have tour dates coming up, including three in NY/NJ this week. They play Kingston’s Tubby’s on Thursday (7/18), Brooklyn’s Alphaville on Friday (7/19), and New Brunswick, NJ’s Clownhouse on Saturday (7/20). Those are all with Sweet Harm, and the Brooklyn show also has headliners Powerviolets and openers Big Band. In August, Noun will begin a tour with Lung. All dates are listed below.
