Poisoned Seeds are a new-ish Vancouver hardcore band fronted by Go It Alone guitarist Brad Collis that also features members of Hollow Ground, Day Of Mourning, and Blue Monday. They’re releasing their S/T debut LP on March 1 via WAR Records (pre-order), and we’re now premiering its second single. The LP features guest vocals from Hollow Ground’s Jeff Burd, drum engineering by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung, etc), vocal engineering by Tim Creviston, and mixing and guitar/bass engineering by the band’s own Avrinder Dhillon.
The band members have played in a variety of different types of hardcore bands over the years, and Poisoned Seeds pulls from all throughout the band members’ individual pasts and beyond. First single “Blame the Witch” has a thrashy, metallic vibe that shares some DNA with Hollow Ground, while new single “Drenched” is a melodic hardcore song that I think fans of Go It Alone and other similar bands are definitely gonna like.
“For Poisoned Seeds we wanted to blend our favorite bands that influenced us, with a fresh twist on it,” says Avrinder. “Bands that we grew up on like All Out War, Buried Alive, Strife, At The Gates come to mind. The type of music that would balance crushing breakdowns with melody and still have urgency.”
About the new song, Brad says that lyrically he “wanted to encapsulate our hometown we live in. It typically rains 6 months of the year and it is common that people battle seasonal depression here among other struggles. When I wrote the lyrics to this song and record I was going through an emotional roller coaster and this band I felt was a perfect outlet to express myself through the one thing that has given me so much in life. Hardcore music.”
