After gradually making their return to the stage and celebrating some classic albums on tour, melodic metalcore pioneers Poison The Well revealed plans to release their first new album in over 15 years. Most details are still TBA, but they did just release their first new song in over 15 years, “Trembling Level,” via their new label home of SharpTone Records.
The song was produced by prolific metalcore producer and Fit For An Autopsy/Better Lovers/END member Will Putney (Every Time I Die, Knocked Loose, etc), and one of the song’s credited songwriters is former guitarist Derek Miller, who went on to form Sleigh Bells (who also returned this week with a new single and tour announcement). Poison The Well have changed their sound a lot over the years, and “Trembling Level” embraces everything from their aggressive metalcore side to their more melodic post-hardcore side to their more experimental side, which guitarist Ryan Primack says was very intentional. “I was trying to figure how to effectively incorporate elements from our whole discography into one song,” he says. “We ended up with this, and it has a little bit of everything we’ve done throughout the course of our existence.”
“Lyrically, it’s about tackling a fear,” adds vocalist Jeff Moreira. “I tend to write based on personal experience. You’re approaching something you’re scared to do, going through it, and realizing the hardest parts are actually the ones you should be looking towards because those will lead you to success.” It’s a triumphant return, as you can hear for yourself–listen and watch the Eric Richter-directed video below.
Meanwhile, Poison The Well are gearing up to take their game-changing 1999 debut album The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation on a 25th anniversary tour with the stacked lineup of Glassjaw, Better Lovers, and Teenage Wrist. That tour hits NYC’s Brooklyn Paramount on April 27, and a couple new stops were just added to that tour as well. All dates are listed below.
A press release also confirms that touring guitarist Vadim Taver (also of This Day Forward and A Life Once Lost) and bassist Noah Harmon are now official members of the band. No word on Derek Miller’s contributions beyond his songwriting credit on this song.
