Oxbow are no more, but bandleader Eugene S. Robinson is staying busy and gearing up to release the fourth album by his band Buñuel, Mansuetude, on October 25 via SKiN GRAFT Records and Overdrive Records (pre-order). The album has a handful of cool guests on it, and today they’ve shared the song with Megan Osztrosits of Couch Slut, a newer band who makes sludgy noise rock descended from the likes of Oxbow (and The Jesus Lizard, whose Duane Denison also guests on this Buñuel album). “When Eugene hit me up to ask if I wanted to do vocals for a track, I said yes without even hearing it,” Megan says. “He rules and I am psyched for this absolute ripper of an album.”
Titled “Fixer,” it’s a gnarly, heavy song, and anyone missing Oxbow should make sure they’re not sleeping on this. The band says, “Following a Breaking Bad trajectory and owing this account largely to a friend of his who had been called The Crystal Meth King of Oklahoma by the FBI, the FIXER follows a drug czar’s Man Friday as he cleans up that which inevitably needs cleaning up when you’re living a life of crime.” Listen below.
Mansuetude was produced by Netherlands leader Timo Ellis, and other guests include Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon, cellist Andrea Beninati, and alto saxophonist/vocalist David Binney.
