We haven’t heard much from Texas hardcore/crossover thrash greats Judiciary since they wrapped up the tour cycle behind 2023’s Flesh + Blood, but they’re back and on the attack. They’re gearing up for a fall US tour with Killswitch Engage, Machine Head, and Rivers of Nihil, followed by a trip overseas to support Guilt Trip in the UK and Europe, and they just announced a new EP, Stalagmite Angels, due September 4 via Closed Casket Activities (pre-order). The EP was engineered and produced by Phil Odom in Austin and then mixed and mastered by Will Putney, and it represents a change for Judiciary: vocalist Jake Collinson learned guitar to help write this material.
The first single is “Wall of Skulls,” and it’s an absolute rager. It’s a perfect example of the way Judiciary inject devilish metal riffage into their hardcore fury, and it’s got me feeling as excited about Judiciary right now as I did the moment I first heard them. The band says this song:
…is a monument to a new era of Judiciary that stands on the foundation of our past. It’s an ode to hardcore and the underground scene that we know and love—it’s what made us who we are today. And though we’ve ventured into different realms of heavy music since Judiciary began, every single time we return with new skulls to add to our little slice of the underground.
