Jane’s Addiction cancelled the remainder of their first tour in 14 years with their original lineup and said they’ve decided to “take some time away as a group” after Perry Farrell threw a punch at Dave Navarro on stage in Boston, but the band presumably already had a single scheduled to come out this week and they’ve gone forward with releasing that song to streaming services today. Titled “True Love,” it’s a woozy ballad that the band debuted live last year and have played at a few other shows since. You can hear it below.
It’s the second new single from the lineup of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Eric Avery, following “Imminent Redemption,” which they released this past July. In August, Dave Navarro said a new album is “more than likely going to happen.”
“I mean, we have recorded material,” he said. “I don’t know specifically the model, if it’s going to be a song at a time, or if we’re going to drop a song and then a record, or I don’t really know. I kind of stay out of that stuff. What matters to me most is that this stuff is on vinyl.”
After cancelling the rest of the tour, Perry issued his own statement, saying, “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect. It is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
Speaking about Perry in their own statement, the rest of the band said, “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
