UK experimental metalcore band Heriot recently followed up their very promising debut EP and early singles with their first full-length album Devoured by the Mouth of Hell (via Century Media), and it finds them getting catchier, heavier, and even less compromising than they were at the start. With the year coming to a close, the four members of Heriot told us about their favorite albums of 2024, with two picks by each member, including Knocked Loose, Candy, Fontaines D.C., Charli XCX, and more.

Heriot’s Favorite Albums of 2024
Debbie Gough (guitar, vocals):
Knocked Loose – You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To
I feel this is one of Knocked Loose’s best releases to date! It’s a great representation of how the band have grown throughout the years and how they have done so without compromising their artistic integrity. It’s really inspiring to see a band do so well with that in mind. “Sit & Mourn” is a particularly special track in my opinion!
Lola Young – This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway
I love Lola Young because she’s got that British charm and a tongue-in-cheek vibe that makes her music so real and fun. She’s clever with her lyrics and has a really unique way of projecting relatability. Although she’s not a metal artist, I find her music really inspiring.
Julian Gage (drums):
Blanket – Ceremonia
I kept seeing the artwork for Ceremonia all over socials and decided to give it a shot after finding out it was a Church Road release. It’s a killer shoegaze/alt rock record that was in rotation for me over the summer!
Boston Manor – Sundiver
My favorite Boston Manor album to date! It expands on everything they did on Datura and I feel like they wear their influences on their sleeves much more on this record. The heavier stuff on here makes the massive choruses hit even harder. Our Deb also features on the closing track!
Erhan Alman (guitar):
Charli XCX – Brat
If you’re trying to introduce Charli to anyone I think this will always be the go to album. It’s unapologetically her own style and every track has its own flavour to offer. Top tier album. “Everything is romantic” is my standout
Geordie Greep – The New Sound
This is one of those albums that seemed to pop out of nowhere and then all of a sudden was everywhere. I’d never listened to Black Midi but was keen to give this album a go from the artwork alone. It’s a mix of samba, orchestration and spoken word following odd time signatures, which is a strange bunch of things to put together but it works and I find that super inspiring. It’s one of those records you listen back to again and again and each time hear different nuances in. “Holy Holy” is my favourite on this record.
Jake Packer (bass, vocals):
Candy – It’s Inside You
A fantastic record that really feels like CANDY nailed their sound identity. It’s an absolute delight to listen to, so many textures and hard hitting riffs – a perfect blend of hardcore and industrial. A very inspiring and exciting album from start to finish.
Fontaines D.C. – Romance
A very nostalgic sounding album for me, I could not put it down. It gives early The Stranglers/alternative ’80s vibes. There is not a bad song on this record and I’m always alternating my favourite track. It has very subtle and honest songwriting. I also really enjoy the production on this one, the orchestral elements have really elevated their sound from the last record.
