Deadbody, one of the many bands of Taylor & Colin Young (God’s Hate, Twitching Tongues, etc), have announced a new split release with another great death metal/hardcore crossover band, Tribal Gaze. It comes out on November 15 via Closed Casket Activities and Maggot Stomp (pre-order), with five new Deadbody tracks and three new Tribal Gaze tracks. Two tracks from the former and one from the latter are streaming now.
Taylor Young says, “It’s an honor to share a record with one of my actual favorite current bands. Two sides and flavors of savage riffs and manic drumming that I’m excited for everyone to hear.” Tribal Gaze’s Quintin Stauts adds, “We believe this split will find a special place in the hearts of people who like evil shit to headbang to and masterfully chaotic ass beaters. It only made sense for Tribal Gaze to come together with Deadbody to bring that kind of force.”
Taylor also mixed Tribal Gaze’s 2022 debut LP The Nine Choirs (as well as their songs for this split), and he picked the band for our list of metal bands to watch in 2023, saying, “The 90’s Florida Death Metal itch is a tough one to scratch, as there will never be another Morbid Angel or Obituary. Tribal Gaze has taken an axe to that itch, nuked it, migrated it to Texas and stuck a flag in it. Twisty downtuned riffs, ultra hard vocals and absurdly in-the-pocket drumming create a monster mix that, even after working on their album “The Nine Choirs”, I keep coming back to almost a year later. Whatever this band does next will be a triumph, and this band will end up in the top echelon before you can say ‘OUGH.'”
Tribal Gaze’s first offering from the split, “Twitching On the Cross,” makes very good on Taylor’s promise, and Deadbody contrast that with the 65-second, fast-paced fury of “Six Shots Saved,” plus a six-second opening theme song: “D.E.A.D.B.O.D.Y.” Listen to all three tracks below.
Tonight (9/11), Tribal Gaze are beginning a tour opening for Nails (who just released their first album in eight years), Mammoth Grinder (who just announced their first EP in six years), and 200 Stab Wounds, and that hits Brooklyn Monarch on September 20 with additional support from Stabbed. After that, Tribal Gaze will open the first leg of Undeath‘s headlining tour, which also features Kruelty and Gates To Hell on all dates, and Torture on the second leg. The second leg with Torture also includes a Brooklyn Monarch show (on 10/20).
Deadbody also have three West Coast shows with Nails in November. All dates for both bands are listed below.
Colin Young also recently launched a new AFI-sounding band, Holy Blade, whose debut EP was co-produced by Taylor. And Taylor is now an official member of Regional Justice Center.
