Primal Code are a death metal trio from Chicago (whose bassist Will Lindsay also played in Indian, Middian, Abigail Williams, and several other bands) that formed in 2021 and have since released a demo (2022), the Subliminal Master EP, and a split with The Gavel, and now they’ve signed to Relapse for their debut album, Opaque Fixation, due November 15 of this year (pre-order). As for the band’s no-frills death metal approach, they say:
It really started with our obsession with Bolt Thrower and how a lot of bands didn’t have that same vibe. ‘Low-speed whiplash’ was the term that was kicked around at first that we stuck to a lot. Being a three-piece has also really become a big part of what we are aiming for. Less is more, always.
Vocalist/guitarist Gene Marino also adds, “The album’s lyrics are vague and meant to be interpreted by the listener at their discretion, but there is an extremeness to the notion of them.” The first single is the brutal attack of “Anapsid,” the album’s first proper song after an intro track.
