“I’ve been here before,” Lucy Dacus told the crowd assembled on Friday evening at Forest Hills Stadium for All Things Go NYC, “but not like this.” Forest Hills Stadium has to be pretty familiar to Lucy at this point — she played there as a member of boygenius in 2023, as a surprise opener for Phoebe Bridgers in 2022, and opening for Bright Eyes and Waxahatchee in 2021, but this was her first time headlining the venue, as she wrapped up her tour supporting this year’s Forever is a Feeling at the second NYC edition of All Things Go (newly expanded to three days from two). She made it a special one: there was hardly a dry eye in the house as she officiated nine couples’ weddings during “Best Guess,” and she covered Sufjan Stevens’ “Chicago” (which inspired the festival’s name) and did a solo acoustic version of boygenius’ “We’re In Love.” Lucy has been doing “Bullseye” with different special guests sitting in for Hozier, who duets with her on the album version, thoughout the tour, and when she got to that part of the night, sitting in a loveseat and inviting out a special guest, the air was charged with anticipation. NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani joined her onstage and gave a brief speech, where, yes, he worked in a little wink-nudge to “Night Shift” and emphasized his support of LGBTQ rights. The reception was enormous, and afterwards, Lucy jokingly asked the crowd if they’d thought Zohran would sing “Bullseye” with her. I got to All Things Go on Friday just in time to see New York alt-pop artist Sarah Kinsley, who gave her new single “Fleeting” (which was released earlier that day) its live debut. She and Rachel Chinouriri were two of my most anticipated sets of the day, and Rachel’s, later, had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand as she sang songs from last year’s What a Devastating Turn of Events and her April EP Little House. I was bummed not to make it out for the rest of the weekend, and most disappointed to miss Doechii headlining Saturday. Saturday also had Remi Wolf, Lola Young, Griff, Peach PRC, MICHELLE, Alemeda, and Sunday (1994), and the festival wrapped up on Sunday with Clairo, The Marías, The Last Dinner Party, Paris Paloma, Blondshell, G Flip, Joy Oladokun, and hey, nothing. Lola Young collapsed onstage during her Saturday set, and cancelled her scheduled set at the DC-area edition of All Things Go the next day. “I’m sorry to confirm that I won’t be playing All Things Go in DC today,” she wrong in an Instagram story. “I love this job and I never take my commitments and audience for granted so I’m sorry to those who will be disappointed by this. I hope you’ll all give me another chance in the future. Thank you to all those who listen and care. To all the people that love to be mean online, pls give me a day off.” She’s since posted a second message cancelling all upcoming shows. “I’m going away for a while,” she writes. “It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know. Obviously you will be entitled to a full refund. I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.
