The Avalanches share Karen O collab “Blue Shadows”

We’re still waiting for Aussie plunderphonic collective The Avalanches to officially announce their fourth album, but they have been releasing a steady stream of singles this year. The latest is “Blue Shadows” which features Yeah Yeah YeahsKaren O.

Based around a sample of “Shadows From Nowhere” from early-’80s Italo act Blue Gas, it’s a beguiling and very chill song and Karen’s vocals match the haunting vibe. “We included ‘Blue Shadows’ among a selection of songs for Karen O, hoping she’d hear it, though we never imagined she’d record a vocal,” The Avalanches say. “The demo already had such a singular mood. What she delivered still amazes us – it’s achingly forlorn and feels as though it always existed as a song.”

Check out the song’s visualizer below.

Meanwhile, The Avalanches recently announced their first NYC show in nine years on October 22 at Terminal 5 with Erick the Architect and a DJ set from Jessy Lanza. Tickets are on presale now (use the password BOWERY) and go on sale to the general public on Friday (7/24) at 10 AM.
