Poughkeepsie, NY record store Darkside Records & Gallery, previously located at 782 Main St, opened over the weekend in its new, larger location at 611 Dutchess Turnpike/Route 44, a building that previously hosted an OTB. One shopper, Lindsay Consiglio, told Poughkeepsie Journal that “it’s nice and spacious with a lot more elbow room. It’s a much better space for live music.” And they did have live music, with eight acts performing on opening day.

More from that article:

Jerry Bailie, 45, of Poughkeepsie, described himself as “not a mainstream (music) guy,” but flipping through the records left him with a sense of nostalgia.

“Part of this is about walking down memory lane,” Bailie said.

Alex Cimmino, 19, traveled from Albany just for the reopening of Darkside Records. As a huge fan of indie and alternative music, Cimmino said Darkside provides a better variety than many of the record shops in Albany.

“The people that work here are super nice and knowledgeable, and they have a good selection that is all over the place,” Cimmino said.

They also (probably not surprisingly) said they very quickly sold out of all their Motorhead and Bowie.
