IDLES are currently in NYC, drumming up a little more hype for next week’s release of their fifth album, TANGK. After tearing Bowery Ballroom to shreds on Tuesday, the band headed to Rockefeller Center for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The performed “Gift Horse,” which was one of the highlights of the Bowery show, with it’s roof-raising “WHOAAAA” chorus. There were no moshers in Studio 6B, but it was still an awesome performance.
As Questlove points out, Joe Talbot ad libbed a shoutout to J. Dilla (and censored themselves): instead of singing “Fuck the king / He ain’t the king / She’s the King” he shouted, “The King! J. Dilla’s the king!” Says Questlove, “Idles took names and mollywhooped us something crazy today. All the while giving respect to Dilla.”
