Amazon’s big-budget series adaptation of long-running post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland video game series Fallout was released on Friday, and the show contains many Easter eggs and inside jokes for fans of the game. Mild spoiler alert: one of those comes via Fred Armisen playing DJ Carl, who runs radio station KPSS. He only plays one kind of music: old-timey fiddle music, which in Fallout 4 soundtracked Minutemen side quests and annoyed many players.
“So you say some people don’t like the sound of this music?” a character asks Carl, who replies, “Oh, people get fully mad!” (If it was Fred picking the music, it might be the actual Minutemen.) You can watch the scene below.
Some people are also wondering if KPSS is an homage to Brooklyn online station KPISS.fm that started in 2015 and has operated, over the years, out of a shipping container and ’70s RV. Some of those who are wondering are KPISS themselves. “Next time just send a check ! CHEERS 🍻,” they wrote on Instagram.
