Sir Elton John is now the 19th person who has gotten an EGOT, aka an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. He completed his on Monday night (1/15) when he won an Emmy for Disney+ concert special Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.
Reg wasn’t there to accept the award in person, but he did write a thank you note on his social media. “Whilst I am gutted that I couldn’t be there to accept this award in person– I recently underwent a knee operation, a gentle reminder, perhaps, of a lifetime spent jumping off pianos (see pic 2!) – my heartfelt thanks go out to the @televisionacad and all those who took the time to vote,” Elton wrote. “Thank you to all the fans, friends, and collaborators who have supported me throughout the years. Honoured to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners, here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives!”
As for the rest of his EGOT, Elton’s first Grammy was in 1987 for “That’s What Friends Are For”; his Oscar for Lion King song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” in 1995, and he received a Tony for his Aida in 2000.
