Étoile is the latest series from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladio, the wife-and-husband team behind Gilmore Girls, Bunheads and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. The series was announced a couple years ago but details have just been shared, including that the whole first season drops via Amazon Prime Video on April 24.
The series is set in the world of ballet — Amy was a dancer as a teen and the artform figured prominently into Bunheads and Gilmore Girls — and follows the dancers and staff of two world renowned companies in NYC and Paris “as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions: swapping their most talented stars.” It stars Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist, some very good records) and Luke Kirby (who played Lenny Bruce on Maisel), and the rest of the cast includes Lou de Laâge (The Innocents), Gideon Glick (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Maestro), David Alvarez (West Side Story), Ivan du Pontavice (Rupture), Taïs Vinolo (The Show Must Go On), David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral), and Simon Callow (Outlander). Yanic Truesdale, who played Michel on Gilmore Girls, has a recurring guest role.
There’s no trailer for Étoile yet, but let’s hope ASP’s whimsical style continues here. Bunheads featured a ballet numbers set to songs by Sparks, Bjork and They Might Be Giants. You can watch those below.
