Belle and Sebastian were on ‘The Simpsons’ last night, sang “Willie and the Dream of Peat Bogs”

Belle and Sebastian, in animated form, appeared on last night’s episode of The Simpsons. The episode was titled “Ae Bonny Romance” and had Groundskeeper Willie “kidnapped” to Scotland, with Bart and the rest of the Simpsons following to rescue him. In actaulity it was a ruse to get the Simpsons to attend Willie’s wedding in Edinburgh. His wife, Maisie, was played by Karen Gillan, and another Doctor Who star, David Tennant, played her father.

Belle and Sebastian were the wedding reception band, and their Dear Catastrophe Waitress song “If You Find Yourself Caught in Love” soundtracked a montage (including Lisa attending Edinburgh Fringe Festival). There was also an original song, “Willie and the Dream of Peat Bogs,” a clear nod to the band’s classic “Judy and the Dream of Horses,” that played over the episode’s closing credits.

“I think they did us pretty well, what do you think?” frontman Stuart Murdoch wrote on Twitter. “Beans and Stevie are particularly well represented.” Watch those clips below, and you can watch the whole episode on Hulu.

Belle and Sebastian will be on tour in 2024, including a NYC show at Brooklyn Paramount on May 1 with The Weather Station.
