Chicago band Whitney are back with a new single and have announced a North American tour. First the single, “Darling,” is back to Whitney’s signature country-soul sound after a dalliance with synthesizers on 2022’s SPARK. “There’s something to be said for a 2 minute-or-less gem that aims for the heart,” says the band. “Songs like ‘Gonna Hurry’ by Dolly Parton and ‘Take Care’ by Big Star come to mind—poignantly written goodbyes emphasized by the fact that both songs are over as quick as they started. In the case of ‘Darling’ the song transitions into a second act that serves to accept a goodbye instead of leaving it up in the air, but we think the song ultimately feels like it’s over too soon in the best way possible.” Listen to that below.
Whitney have also announced summer tour dates, including runs supporting CAAMP and Shakey Graves, and headline dates with Folk Bitch Trio opening. The latter includes Asbury Park, NJ’s The Stone Pony on August 10. Check out Whitney’s tour schedule below.
