Michael Shannon & Jason Narducy are a week into their tour paying tribute to R.E.M.’s Fables of the Reconstruction, where they play that album in full, plus a lot more, backed by a band that includes drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Bob Mould). The tour hit Portland, OR on Saturday and joining them for most of the second set was R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck. He came out for their cover of Pylon’s “Crazy” and stayed the rest of the show, which included “Harborcoat,” “Time After Time,” “Sitting Still, and more before bringing out R.E.M. touring guitarist Scott McCaughey (also of Young Fresh Fellows, The Minus 5, The Baseball Project, more) for “Cuyahoga” and Set 2 closer “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville.”
For the encore everyonce came back out for “So. Central Rain” and “7 Chinese Brothers,” and then brought out opener Dave Hill for a cover of Aerosmith’s “Toys in the Attic” to close out the show. Check out video from Portland and the setlist below.
The tour hits Indianapolis tonight (2/24) and rolls into NYC at Brooklyn Steel on March 8. Remaining dates of the tour are listed below.
